I am currently a junior in high school. I know I want to go into business. U.Penn is my dream school to apply. Here is my stat:
-I currently have a 4.18 weighted GPA (my school does not give unweighted GPA. I am guessing ~ 3.7, As & Bs)
-I am ranked top 10.7% of my class (~1400 students) in a very competitive public high school. I am hoping to increase my ranking a little bit by the end of this semester.
-I have taken almost all honors classes, 3 APs in sophomore year, 6 APs in junior and more APs in senior year.
-I have gotten a 33 on my ACT and will be taking it again.
-On SAT I got 1420 for M+C (2030 overall, will not submit). I have not taken any SAT II test yet.
ECs: I am in National Honors Society (3 years), a Dance Club member (2 years), 3 years Art class including Art 3D AP (I will make a portfolio for my 3D art work this year). I’ve played club soccer for 7 years with year-around intensive training, games and tournaments (my team is D1 team in the most competitive league of the area and is currently North State Rank #4, Region Rank #21, and National Rank #93). I have some leadership roles for few local youth programs and had enrich community service volunteer experience, etc.
I am an Asian male. I know U.Penn is a reach college for me. I’d like to know if I have the best chance at U.Penn… Will ED increase my chance to be accept by U. Penn? Please help to provide your advices.
Chance threads are pretty inaccurate. Google U Penn’s Common Data Set and compare your stats with admitted first time freshmen. Do your own analysis on your chances. I have not checked so I have no idea. Good luck.
Just making sure you found the “Common Data Set” rather than a profile on their admissions page. It’s not usually easy to find on the colleges’ web sites. It’s easiest find through Google. It’s a gold mine because it will show what they weigh, interview v. volunteer hours v. geographic location you are coming from. It has nothing to do with your high school’s student data. Page 7 has the most important data but you might check other pages. Always read these for the schools you plan to apply to:
I d say you need to improve your SAT quite a bit or take the Act and see hoe you do. The average Penn SAT for the class of 2018 was 2200 last year. Especially since you are asian male the comoetition will be super cutthroat. There are thousands of asian candidates applying to Penn and other ivies with perfect and near perfect SAT scores.
You do not have a choice, you have to submit the 2030 SAT 1 score because Penn requires ALL test scores from both tests if you have taken both. They do not participate in score choice.
If I were you, I’d retake the SAT since Penn sees all your test history; in other words, they see both ACT and SAT. With that in mind, even your 33 ACT isn’t any guarantee either.
Asian makes it extremely competitive.
Maybe need somewhat stronger ECs and some Awards in there.
Class rank isn’t too high.
Essays and Recs will have a great impact on Penn’s decision here. Where else do you plan on applying? Ivy league lottery will be extremely difficult so you should plan on applying to 6-10 schools.
