I’m really worried about my essays, I feel like they were all OK, especially my CA one. Definitely could have been better (I’m not the best writer)
Great Scores great gap. Some good extracurriculars. You have the benefit of being an URM with a low income. This shows schools like this that you have work through situation which many other applicants with similar scores didn’t have to face, something that will set you apart at the schools you are applying. I 100% guarantee you will get into at least one of these schools, most likely get into the rest beside stanford,yale, and princeton. But at those schools you still have a good shot. Honestly the only things that could have really been better (according to you, and you are probably pretty hard on yourself) is your essays since they provide the medium to set yourself apart from the pack. You are getting into at least one of these schools and they are all phenomenal. Good luck either way!!
Princeton, stanford, yale, and UPenn are especially hard schools to get in. I believe that besides these schools you definitely have a big-whooping chance of getting into EVERYONE of the other schools. (Let us be honest… you have a guaranteed spot in all of the schools besides the four I mentioned) good luck, but don’t sweat it! You’ll definitely hit one of those schools!
Thanks everyone for the quick responses! I would be more than grateful if I got into only one of these school, let alone 75% of them, lol. I’ve worked so hard since I moved to the US and it’s nice to know that soon it could all be worth it. I applied to so many school because I know just how competitive college admissions has become. After looking through all of the old decisions forums, I honestly didn’t think I had a chance at most of these universities.
Hopefully, UChicago class of 2019!
Columbia: Low reach
Duke: low reach
Johns Hopkins: low reach
Northwestern: reach
Princeton: low reach
Stanford: reach
UChicago (my top school): high match
UPenn: low reach
Yale: reach
USC: match
UCLA (my other top school): match
UC Berkeley: high match
48 percent of the class has already been finalized, through ED acceptances;
The RD admissions rate will approximate 8 percent;
Your credentials are very good, however, at least 10,000 (probably considerably more) of your RD competitors will have rather similar – and equally distinguished – dossiers.
Duke is a reach, notwithstanding your fine qualifications.
i genuinely think you will get into all of these schools, with the exception of stanford being a low reach. seriously your stats are great and esp with you being a real URM from Sudan, they would love to have you. early congratulations on wherever you decide to go i am almost positive that u chicago will accept you, judging from the threads I’ve read in the past. i could be wrong as its always a crapshoot, but i really really believe you’ll get into all of these schools
Thanks for the support everyone! :-bd It really has relieved most of my stress. I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted if want to know my decisions in March.
Okay, I’m going to be a little realistic. The chances are, you’re not getting into all of these schools, as some are saying. The problem is, these are top schools, and since many applicants have amazing scores, essays mean A lot - and you said you were weak on that field.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into a few of these schools (can’t say which, it’s honestly a toss up), which is nothing to be ashamed of - any of these schools would give an amazing education.
Hey there, just chancing based on what I’ve seen in the past few years. As a minority with amazing stats and a unique back-story, you could easily get into most of these schools. I would say you will get into most of these: U of C, Penn, NU, JHU, Duke, and all the UCs (most in-state get either UCLA or UCB but usually not both). HYPS are obviously reaches for everyone, even us minorities, so you will probably get waitlisted/rejected (but who knows). Good luck! oh and I’m also from Sudan, haha
Status Update:
UChicago - waitlisted
Duke - accepted
MIT - accepted (lol forgot to mention in the chance!)
UCLA - accepted (woo! go Bruins!)
UCSD - accepted
UC Davis - accepted
Still waiting on the rest, but I’m pretty stoked with my options so far!
