Thank you so much for your time!

You sound like a great applicant for Rice, and you have excellent chances. With Rice’s recent announcement of a new financial aid program, I predict the number of applications will soar next year so past predictors of admission stats may not hold true this year. Even so, Rice will be very familiar with the rigor of your high school, which is a great school. You might be interested in joining the Rice MOB (Marching Owl Band). If so, the MOB might be a thing to mention on the Why Rice question. http://mob.rice.edu Rice also has a symphonic band and a jazz band which are not limited to music majors.

If Rice is definitely your first choice, you should apply ED. ED has a higher admission rate than RD (20 percent for ED vs 10 percent for RD). Students apply into one of Rice’s schools, such as the School of Social Sciences/Engineering/Humanities/etc, but are admitted to the university as a whole. Economics is in the School of Social Sciences. Once admitted, students can take any classes they want and major in any field(s) they choose (except architecture and music which require portfolio/audition). The School of Social Sciences gets a large amount of applicants but not as many as the School of Engineering or the School of Natural Sciences.

Thanks so much for replying! And thanks for explaining some of the application process too. I was planning to apply ED for economics :wink:

Here is a chart which shows Rice student enrollment in the various schools. https://oir.rice.edu/students-scholars/enrollment/enrollment-demographics

@firefoxmoxia226 : What do you consider to be your greatest weakness ?

@Houston1021 Thanks for the link!

Your stats and accomplishments are quite impressive!

Rice can be a tough admit for Texans, but your record makes you a strong candidate. If you apply ED, I would have to think that your chances of admission are very good.

As you might know, Rice has made a concerted effort to upgrade its undergraduate Economics program over the last five years or so. There is still work to be done (statistics instruction is, I think, a continuing weakness at Rice), but overall the department has wide appeal and is drawing in lots of new majors. For example, my daughter came to Rice from an arts background, but she was so impressed with the Intro to Econ class she took freshman year (taught by a wonderful instructor hired specifically to teach this course as part of the aforementioned upgrade) that she ended up becoming an Econ major. As a bonus, Rice Econ grads place well in banking and consulting–two high-paying industries with a large presence in Houston.

Congratulations on your successes thus far, and good luck with your application!

Oh um I guess my greatest weakness would be a lack of national awards? and also my extracurriculars don’t really show a coherent ‘story’, because I don’t have one clear interest but instead participate in a lot of different things @Publisher

You sound like an incredible candidate!! Best of luck!! I also applied Early Decison. :slight_smile:
