Please Chance Me For BU ED2!

Hello! Boston University is my dream school and top pick. However, BU is sort of a reach school for me. Please tell me what you think my chances are of admission!
I’m applying to the Wheelock College of Education with a dual major in Social Studies Education, and the Middle East and North Africa Studies (CGS)

Here is my academic record and course rigor:
4.05 Weighted GPA (Unweighted is not measured at my school).
Rank: 20 of 180

I am a senior, taking a mix of college prep and AP classes. Sophomore year I took AP Human Geography, and AP Biology. Junior year I took APUSH, AP Language and Comp. This year I’m taking AP Gov and Politics, and AP Environmental Science, and AP Literature and Comp.
I’ve had relatively good grades, with a mix of high A’s and B’s (largely A’s). My one worry is my C+ letter grade in Honors Geometry in my Sophomore year. This is my only C. My first quarter grades for my senior year are stellar; all high A’s besides one B+.

Here are my Test Scores:
1360 SAT
690 Math
670 CR/W

I have strong extracurriculars and lead many clubs. I am the President of my school’s Young Dems club, Community Service Club, Bhangra team (Punjabi Dancing). I am a varsity xc and track team runner, and have numerous youth roles in my state’s Democratic Party, as well as 2 internships for local congressmen/women. I work a part-time job as well.

I also started my own non-profit and set up a tutoring program in my local middle school for those who can not afford tutoring outside of school.

My essays are pretty strong and give insight into my home-life and aspirations of being a teacher and political activist

My letters of recommendation are strong, and I’ve won many academic awards.

I’ve toured the school twice, have reached out to my Admissions Representative a few times about my experiences touring, and set up a prospective student tour and meeting with Wheelock College students and faculty.

Needless to say, I’m in love with the school but I am aware it is still a bit of a reach.
If you chance me, that would be great!

Thanks for reading!

@Christiandavid056 Hi there from an admitted BU student. My weighted GPA was around a 4.2-4.3 but I didn’t have a C on my report card (I did have one B- which made me nervous). I think as long as you showed growth, there should still be a solid chance. ECs are awesome, and your interest level is really good.

I do think your SAT score is out of BU’s range, about 60 points below their 25th percentile ( I was 1550 superscore), and BU does look at scores pretty seriously. I got in from a BU feeder school so that helped. How many kids a year are accepted from your school? How were their scores and GPA?

Naviance should provide you this information.

Hello!
Looking at my Naviance, there frankly have not been many applicants from my school. In the past two years, three people have applied and one has been accepted. In 2017, 13 people applied and 6 were accepted.
Between all of them, my scores are average. The lowest SAT that was accepted was 1320, and the highest was 1500. The highest GPA was a 4.4, and the lowest was a 3.8.
I’m not really sure how this stands data-wise, but Naviance says I am in “good” standing.

I also have shown growth in the class where I did poorly. I’m not sure if they actually look at the Senior Year Q1 grades sent in, but I had a 99 for my math class (In which I got a C in math sophomore year.)!

I hope this helps. Thanks!

I am also the only person in my family to graduate high school and pursuing college!

@Christiandavid056 I would say that BU is a bit of a high match/ low reach but definitely not impossible. But you should know that BU ED2 has historically been very selective and that the overall acceptance rate has been really shrinking (from 25% to 18% in two years). I’m sure you’re academically qualified but there’s a bit of luck and playing the admissions game involved to get into these schools. I think I got in because I was qualified and wrote well, had shown a lot of interest (which you have too!) but I also think me being the third in my family to go to BU was definitely a significant factor. Keep your hopes up!
