Please Chance Me For Choate and Peddie! :)

Hi everyone!

I am going to be entering 8th grade in the fall, and I am planning on applying to prep schools for 9th grade. I am a dedicated, athletic, and intelligent, person.

My strongest subject is english.
My weakest subject is pre algebra.
I have a 3.8 GPA.
I've played/play, softball, track and field, soccer, swimming, cheerleading, gymnastics, and karate.
I've donated tons of food to my local food donation center, and i've helped out with a breast cancer walk with my girlscout troop.
I'm a dancer and actress, but I enjoy ceramics, and i've even played the flute for a couple years. I am teaching myself how to play piano, and i've tried to learn how to play guitar, but that didn't go too well.
I currently attend an arts magnet school, and it is the top school in my city, (which is a very large city!)
I absolutely loooove to challenge myself, excpecially in more rigorous subjects such as math and science.
I want to become a forensic scientist one day, and that is why I was really looking into Peddie.
I really like Choate too, because I just love the environment there, and they offer soo many interesting courses. I live about half an hour away from Choate, and about 2 hours away from Peddie.
I would definetly need full financial aid, or else I wouldn't be able to attend.

Please get back to me, and ask me anything that I forgot!

Thanks, and have a spectacular summer! :)

Oh, and i’ve taken spanish for 2 years, and chinese for 1 year. :)

I (and no one on this website) can “chance” you. We can’t tell you whether or not you will get in. However, we can offer you advice on how we think you can present yourself in the best possible light.

1 )Have you taken the SSAT? While this is not as important as many people say, your SSAT score does matter. If I were you, I’d buy a few practice SSAT books (I recommend the Princeton Review, especially for vocabulary) and order to official SSAT prep book. Then, take a practice test and use the results to see which areas you are strong in and need improvement. As a general rule of thumb, you should aim for your composite score above 90% and all sections above 80%. It would be even better if you scored above a 95% with all sections above 90%.

2) You seem like a very well-rounded person, and your extracurriculars are fantastic. You seem to be very strong in athletics, the arts, and community service. Boarding schools will be all over that. The only advice I can offer is not to stress yourself out too much. You don’t want to have a nervous breakdown before you even attend a prep school.

3) Your list seems good and well chosen based on your interests/current knowledge. If I were you, I’d explore more boarding schools. I would recommend applying to at least 4 schools. And if you’re applying for financial aid, you really should apply to more than 5 schools. A good place to look for boarding schools is boardingschoolreview. Also, there is a thread entitled “Hidden Gems:Lesser Known Prep Schools.” Below, I will link to both of these things.

[Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools](http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/)
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1130908-hidden-gems-lesser-known-prep-schools.html</a></p>

4) There are many factors outside of your control that influence whether or not you get into a boarding school. Your race, geographic location, current financial situation, and the strength of the other people that apply all influence whether or not you get into a prep school. If you don’t get in, remember that there is life outside of boarding school. And, you can always reapply for 10th grade.

Good luck, and if you have any questions, send me a PM.

I would listen to what ifax said. Just so you know, Choate’s arts programs are pretty good. Have you gotten recognized or won awards for your arts/athletics? Prep schools like well-rounded students, but only if they are accomplished and/or motivated!

BTW, if you have any questions, you can feel free to shoot off a PM to me as well!

Thanks guys! I’ve won 1st place state champions in cheerleading, and 3rd place in the 400 meter dash for track and field. I’ve gotten many awards for school related things, such as making the honor roll, science fair, and I came in 1st place for this competition called Book Bowl (you basically read 10 books, and compete against other teams in answering questions about them.) I’ve also won most organized in the enviormental club at my school… Lol

@ ifax, i haven’t taken the ssat yet, but I will in either October or November, and I’m studying with the Princeton Review Book.

I beg to differ, ifax. I would say the SSAT is the least important factor in admission and only comes into play in course placement (although, you must express academic excellence or at least potential for it). I am a living example, scoring in the low 60’s and going to Choate next year (and getting accepted into 3 other prestigious boarding schools) without a hook , legacy or anything of that sort, needing full FA. You must catch the attention of the A/O and make them want you as part of their community through applications and interview.

@Bronxkid wow you just made me feel a million times better! I’ve always thought that you have to get top everything in order to get into prestigious schools! (no offense or anything!) what other schools did you get into?

You can look up which schools people have gotten accepted, waitlisted, and rejected to using this thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1098902-official-master-list-2011-acceptances-21.html</a></p>

It’s in alphabetical order so you can look up BronxKid from there (try using the latest post to see as many usernames as possible). How it works is people post their results after March 10th, it is totally up to them whether or not they want to post their results. BronxKid did post (but I’ll let you look it up for yourself).

Thanks overandover! I’ll be sure to check that out!

I, personally, think the most important part are the essays and interview. Good luck!
