Hook: sobbing i wish i had a hook

I know that my gpa and testing scores are really low especially since one of my friends died earlier in the school year, but I'm really hoping that maybe my ec will help me a bit :( I'm going to try my best to write a killer essay

2005? Do you mean 2000, 2010 or 2050? I think there’s a typo… but I assumed 2050.

Berkeley: Reach
UCLA: Reach
UCSD: High match
UCD: Match/High match
UCSB: Match/High match
NEU: High match
GWU: Match/High match
Cal Poly SLO: Match
UofPacific: Match

Are you sure Cal Poly Pomona can’t be a safety?

Oh shoot yeah I meant 2050! I’m really new to this whole College Confidential posting, but I’ll get the hang of it one day!

Thanks so much for replying back! Cal Poly SLO is a bit closer to where I live, so my parents want me to go to SLO rather than Pomona if I do get rejected from the UCs

Berkeley: lowish Reach (in state im assuming)
UCLA: Lowish reach (lower than Berkeley)
UCSD: High match
UCD: Match
UCSB: Match
NEU: Match
GWU: Match
Cal Poly SLO: Dont know
UofPacific: Dont know

Getting the SAT up will help your chances alot. Continue working on that!
If only I didnt live in the east coast, I would have been more hopeful on the last two.

Question??? How can you have a lower UC GPA with all your AP classes versus your Unweighted??
UCLA/UCB: Low Reach
UCSD: High Match
UCD/UCSB: Match
SLO: High Match (only because its been as difficult as UCLA/UCB depending upon your major)
NEU/GWU: High Match
UOP: Safety

@Gumbymom I was trying to figure out my GPA but my school offers like 4 possible GPAs so I chose my weighted 10-12 gpa & unweighted gpa
my gpa list goes like:

 1. cumulative gpa - 4.09
 2. cumulative unweighted - 3.76
 3. ca cal grant gpa - 3.56
 4. weighted 10-12 a-g gpa- 4.17

Here is the link for the CSU/UC GPA calculator. You get up to 8 extra points for (8 semesters of AP classes).
<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

@gumbymom apparently my UC gpa is a 4.67? I don’t know if I did that right

If you have all A’s the maximum UC GPA you could have is 4.33. Did you use only 10-11th grades? Did you use only your a-g classes that are UC approved based on the link: http://www.ucop.edu/doorways/</a>. You also only get credit for 2 AP classes in 10th so your maximum points in the Honors section would be 8. Only 4 year long AP classes count (or 8 semesters). Based on your Unweighted GPA, you look like you have some B’s. If your UC GPA is 4.0+, you are in good shape for the UC’s/GW/NEU/Cal Poly. I would estimate your UC GPA would be around 3.96 approximately without knowing all your grades.

Unless OP has very high Freshman GPA, it would be hard to have lower UC GPA than overall GPA.

I think that if you raise your test scores, there’s a good chance that you will get into George Washington (and Washington) because my friend with 32 ACT and 3.8 GPA (also without as many ECs as you) got in even though she applied for international which decreases your chance tremendously…

for Berkeley, be sure to write about your liberal side (the school is very liberal) on their own specific essays

Your ECs seem a little broad, so be sure to tie your ECs in when you’re apply/writing your resume!

Good luck! Thanks for commenting on mine as well!

I think that you have a good chance at all the schools you listed. UCLA, Berkeley, and GWU could go either way but I doubt that you won’t get into at least one of them (especially if you score higher on the SAT). Not having a major hook could hurt you, however, your EC’s, especially volunteering, look good. Also, I don’t know if you did this intentionally, but you Senior Year schedule looks less rigorous than your Junior Year one. Make sure that you continue to take challenging classes (or ones that relate to a major/job you’re interested in). Overall, if you write a good essay, get good recommendations, and improve your SAT scores (around 2100-2200), you’ll have a great chance. Good Luck !!!
