I'm working diligently in school to get accepted into TAMU. I'm only a sophomore, but I know that engineering and tamu is perfect for me. ( Chemical or Nuclear )
Right now on a 5.0 scale I have a 4.63, so I'm for sure in the top 10% of my class. I'm in a 5A school at Permian High School. (Odessa,Texas) I'm taking every class AP/Dual and will be be in Calculus my senior year. I will graduate with distinguished and as a Texas Scholar. I don't know my SAT scores yet, but I'm expecting that I will do better on the math than the critical reading.
I don't know how much this will help, but I will have a recommendation letter from a close family friend who is on the board for the bush memorial library.
Any advice or thoughts will be greatly appreciated!!

There has been a slight change to the Top 10% law. Even with that, if you keep your grades up, and stay well within in the top 10%, you are automatically in. Therefore, your chances are virtually 100%.

your best bet is to take the ACT & SAT exams early enough to get to that automatic admission level. By taking them early enough you will have time to re-take them, and you will know which exam you do better in.
A&M likes you to attend leadership camps on campus, So I would check out all A&M has to offer to High School Students. I would visit the campus on an offical visit each year, they keep records of that sort of thing and it is important enough to be on the A&M application - so I would definantly do everything you can to show A&M you are interested in them.
And A&M is interested in your EC’s and your leadership in thoes EC’s - so if there is a chance for you to be a club officer, take it.

thanks everyone!

Greg: Ditto that info about Extra Curriculars. Why settle for just 'getting in?" Get some awesome SAT/ACT scores (take, and re-take tests!), make sure you have some extra curriculars and apply for honors scholarships: President’s Endowed, etc. Nice chunks of change to help get through school!
