-I am planning on doing NROTC MO. Anybody have any expeirence with this?

-I have maintained a full schedule, but have not taken many honors or AP classes so far. I intend to take two AP's next year. How much will this hurt me?

-From my understanding only 9% of students are OOS? Does this hurt my chances considerably?

-I am intending on applying for engineering or a science (Biology). What are my chances of geting in for these majors? If not, would I be able to get into any other departments?

pja213, your gpa and test scores look good. Being from oos will not hurt you.
Engineering is the hardest to get into. NROTC MO doesn’t specify certain majors as NROTC does (looking for eng. and hard sciences majors) so you should be fine if you choose to go the Bio. route or any other major. NCSU offers a hige variety of majors.
If there are other departments that might interest you, go to the NCSU website and search the whole list of academic majors.

Engineering is a tough major. The Calc.,Chem,Physics sequence knocks a lot of freshmen out.
My S is an NCSU grad. who also had a NROTC scholarship. I think maintaining a 2.5 gpa was mandatory for ROTC. Lots of guys in his class ended up changing their major to something other than engineering. Of course that is not allowed now or they would lose their scholarship. The rules on that have changed.

NROTC midshipman are required to take 2 sem. of Calc. and Physics. MO are not required to take those. When you are in NROTC, your service selection (where you go after commissioning) is based partially on your college gpa. You want to have as high a gpa as you can. Not trying to discourage you from Engineering at all, just saying it is def. a much harder path to take.
Also…begin working on your NROTC MO app. by the end of this school year. You’ll want to have it sent in by late summer/early Fall. S started his at the end of jr. year and was able to get his teacher recommendations done before school was out which really helped.
