Please give me feedback on my financial appeal letter

I, Q Thompson, am writing to present a request to be given the privilege of receiving student financial aid again. I would like to explain what happened however, please know that I accept full responsibility for not meeting the requirements.

During the spring semester of 2012 i started college as a first time student. Soon after the semester started my parents split leaving me and my mother with no where to go. I did my best juggling work and school while bouncing around from place to place. As a result i began to miss days of school as well as assignments. Finding a stable place to stay, my attendence as well as my grades grew higher. After midterms I was passing with decent grades until my car broke down. My mother and i were no longer on speaking terms to where she refused to take me to school so once again i began missing class. Not happy with missing assignments, I called all of my friends to see who would be willing to help me out with getting to school. Finding rides on some days i managed to catch up on my classes and pass, not with the grades i wanted but i passed.

I have come to take my time in college very seriously and do everything in my power to earn the excellent grades that i know i can. With a new car i can make it to my classes, not missing any assignments. I also have learned to manage my time more. Studying will be my first priority. As the first college student in my family i strive to achieve greatness. I plan on getting help from tutors whe i feel as though i am not understanding the class assignment, as well as staying in communication with all the instructors to make sure i am up to date in calss and did not misunderstand any instructions given. College is the most important thing in my life as of now and i do not want to fail.

My goal is to finish my college education. I will not enroll in more classes than I can handle. I believe that I might have also been overwhelming myself before. My job has agreed to not get in the way of my school education because they realize that school comes first to me. Again college is the most important thing to me and now that I have been able to experience it for the first time I know what to expect and the expectations that I must live up to . I would be very greatful for another opportunity.

I little background would be helpful…were you put on probation ? I assume you had FA but lost it somehow ?

Having a challenging family event may garner some sympathy, but skipping class doesn’t. Rather than work on your transportation situation why not live on campus ?

It needs to be more formal, IMO. Writing a quick, edited draft for you. Again - this is just my opinion. I have a bachelor’s in education but I am not a writing genius. In the future, I really recommend running everything you do through a word processor especially if it’s something this important.
