[quote]

People's lives are the result of the choices they make - or fail to make. The path one takes in life is not arbitrary. Choices and their consequences determine the course of every person's life. All people, whatever their circumstances, make the choices on which their lives depend.

The average person knows his or her actions will have their consequences. Though the person's actions my be unintentional and not on purpose, he or she faces the outcome of those actions. It can be seen in various works of literature how the main character makes a poor choice and suffers from the result. In addition to literary examples, the average person has found one choice that still affects him or her today.

First, JD Salinger's Catcher In The Rye provides a phenomenal example of the result of a poor choice. Holden Caulfield, the main character, is kicked out of Pencey Prep, his high school, because of his numerous failures. When Holden's history teacher, Spencer, talks to Holden, Holden does not care too much about being kicked out or his grades. Holden writes on his test to Spencer not to take it personally if Spencer fails him. Holden's attitude is like a person jumping off a cliff; Holden does not care about his future. Therefore, Holden Caulfield's choice of not to take school seriously is the cause of Holden's dismissal from Pencey Prep.

Second, Bob Ewell, the foil in Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird, is another excellent example of the consequence one may face if he or she makes a poor choice. Ewell chooses to refuse to work and act like a normal citizen in the town. In addition, Ewell rapes his daugher and makes her accuse Tom Robinson, an innocent man, of the crime. Atticus, Tom Robinson's lawyer, makes Ewell fell like an idiot when he questions Ewell. As a result, Ewell is humiliated in front of the whole town. In addition, Ewell responds to the humiliation by attempting to kill Attcius' children, Jem and Scout. The poor choice of attempted murder, eventually causes his death. Thus, Ewell's poor choices lead to his humiliation and his death.

Third, a criminal's actions result in his jailtime. For example, a mass murderer's choice to kill his or her victims results in his or her future. if the murderer does not make the poor choice, he or she would not face life in prison. Therefore, in some cases, a choice can affect a person's whole life.

In conclusion, each choice a person makes will affect the person's future, whether it is today or tomorrow. Some exterme chocies like murdering someone will affect the person's life in a bigger way. Small choices like failing high school have small consequences. All in all, the choices one makes affect his or her future, whether is great or small.

I know that there are minor subject verb agreement mistakes and I missed a few words because I wrote too quickly, but I typed the essay exactly as I wrote it. Thanks in advance for giving me your feedback.

bump. please? pretty please?

Great essay. Definitely a 6.
But I would lose the First, Second, and Third, at the start of the example paragraphs.
How did you write so fast man??
All the best for you SATs.(I guess it is this SATurday)

I agree with comfy, lose the first, second and third thing. Also, I think that your examples are good as well. You also might want to enhance your vocabulary a little bit more, and add some more to your paragraphs. Good essay by the way. :)

5-6 more leaning to 6 because its kind of weak on the vocab side. However, most of the time they dont care.

I would say 4... You don't do much analysis, just summarizing events and books

Definitely not a 5 or 6.
Your analysis is extremely simplistic. You don't answer the whole question. You talk about how choices have consequences--this is obvious. But you don't answer the main issue...How much of our lives is determined by our choices? Aren't there circumstances where no matter what choice we make, we have no power over the situation?
I'd give this a 4

Thanks all for your feedback. I really appreciate both the positive and negative feedback. I'd assume that I'm in between a 8-12. The online course gave it a 12, but its not always accurate.

Any more grades, anyone?
