I am choosing my block schedule for the 1st semester of my bs/md (accel med) program and Im required to take gen physics 1 (lecture, lab, & recitation). I usually like having classes in the afternoon so I can study in the morning for tests. One of the scheduling choices has the lecture at 12:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and the recitation at 8:00am on Fridays. Do you think the exams will ever be given on the recitation days or just during lecture days?

Really, really depends on the class and school. No one can probably give you a legit answer since it is so variable. I would guess the tests would only be on the lecture days though. You might have a quiz or something in the recitation though (I think? We call them discussions here, but I assume we’re talking about the same thing).

^^^^^
Yes, it really depends. For my physics class the recitation has quizzes and the lecture has the main exams and random clicker quizzes.

To throw in yet another possibility (to show how different schools can be), my school has exams at night for the big lecture classes (physics, chem, bio, calc, etc). In other words, the exams occur outside of generally scheduled meeting times.

The hell is a recitation day?

Most of my exams have been during regular lecture periods. Occasionally a class will do them in discussion/breakout sections. I’ve had two classes and am taking one next semester that does exams in the evening.

A recitation day is like a discussion class

for me they’re mostly in the evening, or during lecture. Usually the evening ones are because they’re longer (1.5 hours or longer) and lectures are only 50 minutes.
