I’m a transfer student that got into CAL for EECS. I’m worried because of these reasons:

I was in an engineering course that is ‘equivalent’ to a course requirement at cal (engineering 20) but even if i take it it wont really count (meaning I would have to take engineering 20 at CAL again anyway.) I emailed admissions about dropping the course and getting a W and was told that I would get a response to the update in “about 7 days”. It has been 12 days and I still didnt get anything.

My math teacher (for the class equivalent to math 54 at Cal) is really unfair. He doesnt give solutions to tests and when students try to ask him questions, he goes “I have already explained it clearly” or “I’m too busy.” He takes off almost all points for careless mistakes such as small calculation errors and his tests are way too hard and long for one-hour tests. If I do well on the final I can get a C but since the class is 5 units my GPA will be 2.9. Do you think getting the whole class to fill out a complaint form to send in with my grade will help? (The guy in my class that told me about this option said even the Chair recommended us to do this… I heard even his colleagues dont like him). Is Cal really strict on the “3.0 GPA and no grade below a C” requirement?

yees they are really strict on the 3.0 and C thing
u should complete what u said u would in the contract. shouldn't drop or anything until they tell u how much it would affect ur status.
i know a 4.0 engineering that got a C actually in a class on the last semester. his acceptance got PWNED

they are fine w/ a C as long as the GPA does not drop below a 3.0, since that one C will cause the OP's GPA to drop to a 2.9, he/she is in risk of being rescinded.

Yeah, I dropped it and actually got a reply today. I'm still in berkeley! :) But now I have to worry about my grades... Do you think they'll be lenient on a 2.9 because my teacher is unfair since I thought the whole purpose of the GPA requirement was to discourage people from slacking off...

the generic admissions contract is to keep your gpa and pass everything with a C. What is this 3.0 rule that u guys talk about? Does that mean that your overall cumulative gpa be above 3.0 or that your spring semester alone be above 3.0?

@ Guardiangel
I got in with around 3.6 cummulative GPA. I'm doing just as well as I was in my other classes... Pretty sure I'll get an A in physics, B in my other math class, and a B in a class that I'm taking at CAL for credit. It is just this math class that is worth 5 units that is messing me up. The teacher, like I have explained, basically didnt give me any points if I made any careless mistakes. Even if I ace the final... the best I can get now is a C... If I ace my final for the CS class at CAL I might get an A- but then my GPA will be 2.96 ish...

@ brunelicsb0018
Yeah, I'm a bit confused about that too. I might be saved if they're talking about cummulative GPA and not just GPA for this semester... Does anyone know?

Also, do you guys think if we successfully turn in a good complaint form to the Chair and he attaches that in with our grades, Berkeley will not see my C as completely my fault (eg not studying hard, slacking off? I stayed up 3 nights in a row studying for the last test and still failed it... and it is not like I dont understand the material...)

business admin... ahahaha scary but true
today at that berkeley reception 2 history majors talked about their first semester... 23 books
23
23
23
23
23
23

23
23

suddenly michael jordan doesn't seem cool anymore
LOL

LOL... took me a second to understand what Jordan had to do with books... So you got into Haas? I'm not too familiar with the whole business major thing.

What kind of books? is it really necessary to read 23? I know for anthro, one would have to read around 8 books and that is a lot as it is...

@guardain angel: hey, i also got into haas. i have a question to u. my last term GPA is 3.3, but i got a C in humanities course. my conditions of admission only states that i shud finish my last term with a GPA of 3 or above and NO GRADE LOWER THAN a C.
im taking this as a C is ok? and it’s a humanities course anyway…
do u know anyone at haas who got a C on their last semester before moving to haas?

@cysz: i read this thread and was wondering if u got a C in that course? is this course u were worried about a prerequisite?
and do u still get into berkeley?
