I just took the 9/24/05 act. I sent in my Michigan state apllication on 8/28/05. When do you think I will here back from them?
Also, I posted before that i have a 3.6, BAD BAD trend of grades during 2nd semester of junior year, but still overall a 3.6, a 24 act, instate, top 25%, and no ECs. What chance do you think I have of being waitlisted? What chance (percentage wise) do you think I have of getting in? (20%..50%..etc)

LouisVuitton, relax, I think you're just fine and will get in. Despite your bad GPA spell, you're stats are still good for MSU; almost right at the median -- MSU's running about 3.6 GPA and about a 24.5 ACT -- based on last year's stats. You're also in state, which is cool, but MSU makes less of a distinction than schools like UNC or U of M. Since MSU's have a larger undergrad population than many leading State flagships, there's more room, even though the school's getting more and more popular with bright kids who want to stay closer to home -- as in the state of Michigan. Im sure the ridiculous gas prices, along with that ubiquitous (somewhat irrational, at times) fear of terrorism, is keeping more kids closer to home.

... but once again, take a breath and relax; you're fine. This stuff is important, but your health (mental & physical) is most important; don't stress out. That's why people are here to help.

.. sorry, Louis, I forgot to add (answering your Q), that MSU's on the "rolling admissions" plan so, unlike the Ivies, there's no set answer date (a la April 15th). This means that the school is constantly cycling in apps and sending out acceptances/rejections -- usually answers run about 3, 4 weeks after apps. You're in good shape since you've applied so early. For kids who apply after Christmas/1st of the year it get's dicey-ier b/c space fills up. In recent years for MSU there've been about 25K applicants for 6,500 slots. Again, overall, I'd say you're in great shape.

LouisVuitton - have you heard anything from MSU yet? I applied around the same time (8/27), but they didn't receive my transcripts from school until September 12th. I'm hoping to hear from them soon....

No, I haven't heard anything from them yet. I took my act recently (found out today that i got a 25) so they haven't graded the writing. ACT said it will take 3-4 weeks at the minimum until the act is sent to msu. I hope i/we hear something before xmas though. I got into western yesterday, but i REALLY have my sights set on msu.

I got a 25 on my ACT from September as well. I was pretty disappointed, I was thinking I got a 26 or 27, I'm retaking in October. Sure hope we hear soon!

i was sad also. I am not going to re-take it though. I was expecting to get a 26-27 too, but I thought it was unusually hard. I called MSU yesterday and they told me we won't hear anything till January. Do you think you will get in?? Where in MI do you live?

LouisVuitton, again, I've got 2 words for you, dude: DON'T WORRY. You're just fine. A 24-5 ACT/3.6 GPA puts you right near the median of last year's admits (this year's hasn't been tabulated yet, as far as I know). Don't worry about any slowness, either. It's not that your slipping by MSU's silence -- they're probably bogged down by the volume -- it's becoming more and more a popular school, but it will be a long time (if ever) before they start thumbing their nose at quality students like you and Justcurious. I'm sure you won't have to wait till Christmas with MSU's rolling admissions. My guess is you'll be admitted by Thanksgiving if not way before...

... keep us posted, but STOP WORRYING... you're fine.

Quincy4 - I hope your right regarding our acceptance, thank you for the words of encouragement.

LouisVitton - I'm from Milford. Like you my stats are a match for the averages of Michigan State but we happen to be applying during a very competitive time so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high.

Michigan State is absolutely my first choice school. Here's to hoping Quincy4 is right!!!

Yeah, well I talked to some guy today and he said he would be suprised if I got in because I got 2 d's and 1 c on my 6th semester transcript. eventhough i still have a 3.6 and a 25, he said msu will look SO FAR DOWN on my transcript. I got into western last weekend though. I am so stressed out and worried, I feel like I am becoming numb.

I think he is credible, I mean he said he applied and was waitlisted. I am just trying not to thin about it (yeah not working). I currently have all A's, with the exception of physics (b-). i am going to send in my 6 week transcript. Do you know anyone who has been accepted with a gpa less than mine and a act less than mine recently? Like for the 2005/2006 school year?

LouisV, if this guy isn't working in MSU admission -- and I seriously doubt he does, as admission reps are generally barred from such "forecasting" -- I really wouldn't listen to him.

hey! I checked my application status and it said they made a decision and mailed out a letter on wednesday. On the application status website, it gave me a PID. do they give PID to accepted students or everyone who applies?

of course you're in. why would they flat out reject somebody with your stats? and if you were deferred or wait listed, it wouldn't say a decision was made, right?

Yeah but I had a REALLY bad trend of grades and i heard msu doesn't accept people that have those. plus they haven't even seen my new act writing scores, and that is mandatory. So I think they rejected me based on my bad trend (2d's and 1 c during 2nd semester of junior year). Why would they admit me without even seeing my scores?

oh, well, yeah, that's a problem. i can't imagine that you'd be denied admission, though. i think they would have told you if you were missing something they needed to see before your application was considered complete.

MSU, like most selective schools, recognizes quality students -- like you -- often slump late junior year. The understand the pressure kids are under taking/retaking tests, getting apps prepared, etc. If you've got the grades and good scores, then slip a tad, I don't think it'll kill you.
