Please help!! I'm freaking out! (Very Unique)

This is my academic history:

Cal state san marcos for 1 year - Pretty much straight F's

Community college for 2 years - Had an epiphany early on, retook all the classes from san marcos and more. (Averaging a 3.5 here) Chemistry major. (My mother passed away last march so my spring grades dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.0)

IGETC certified
TAP Certified

My fear with this application cycle is:

a) i do not know whether my courses at CSU will be replaced by CC grades. (There is NO way for me to know, it's all up to the admissions people :( )

b) I do not know how influential my upward trend will be

My GPA is anywhere from a 3.0 - 3.3 depending strictly on course articulation.

Does anyone have any advice or tips or stories to calm my nerves. What can i do to move forward in this situation?

San marcos requires Five years to have passed in order to do Academic renewal so that is out of the question.

AND through assist.org my CC doesn't offer courses that are equivalent to THREE courses at CSUSM.

Is there any hope for me?

Your GPA is awesome, don’t worry about it.

Where are you applying to? You have a great shot at all of the UC’s if your fall grades remain above 3.5+; just include your background in the essay with the CSU grades, joining CCC, and your loss.

How many units have you completed at CC, of those, how many replaced the CSU units?
Are the CSU classes that you can’t retake transferable to the UC system? If possible, take courses similar to these since they might regard it as the same or close enough, but this bit of advice is totally hypothetical.

Did you know, nothing can possibly be “very unique?” It’s either unique, or not unique. Nothing else.

^

10char…

I basically applied to all of the UC’s except for UCR UCM.

I included my background, CSU grades, etc. I have completed the full 60+ units at CC and of those, around 15 were retakes from the CSU courses.

Of the three CSU course that dont have equivalents at my CC, one is non transferrable, so that’s no problem, but two are transferrable, (One was a film studies class, i took a film class at my CC to make up for it but the descriptions are different, though my CC doesnt offer anything like the CSU course anyways)

Also, if it helps, i havent heard back from ANY UC schools yet.

Am i looking at a 3rd year at CC?

Hi UCLAhopee,

well I can’t offer to my advice except to say that your not alone. Your situation might be slightly more hectic than mine, but im in a similar boat. Messed around my first few years at JC, got allot of F’s. Took a break for 3 years, decided to return and retook all my F’s. Applied to UCLA hoping that I get in, but im taking 20 units this semester to meet the 60 unit requirement. I am worried that the fact that I’ve only taken 40 UC units and that I am currently taking the 20units the spring before I would transfer is going to screw me over.

Basically, even at 3.83, i’m very worried I won’t get in, turbulents pasts suck ;(

@ucla: to say the least.

@Uclahopee:

Film studies? You’re a chem major, they’re not going to care about it. The only thing that I’d be concerned about is the unit cap since technically you come from a four year and your over 70 units. But, given that you haven’t received a half dozen rejection letters over the last few weeks, you’re likely good.

With only a 3.3, UCLA/UCB will be reach schools, but you should be in everywhere else.

Good luck.
