Assignment:Is it better for people to be realistic or optimistic?

“Throughout the sinuous river of human history, it is optimism that had constructed the foundation of human society.” the wisdom words of Charles Lu, pointed out a theory that optimism is the spark to enlighten the palace of truth. In other words, hadn’t human been optimistic, we wouldn’t have discovered the beauty of nature, wouldn’t have enriched the knowledge of mankind, and wouldn’t have carved the strong will of us. Shortly, optimism does benefit mankind.
First, it is optimism that shaped the perseverance of mankind to face any obstacles. Such a point can be fully justified by the story of Thomas Edison, the famous inventor who had made revolutionary changes to the world and the life of human. The nights in children’s time of Edison were lit by the gloomy candle lights and light bulbs’ filaments were so fragile that nobody had ever successfully enhanced them. Thirsting to change such circumstances and enlighten the nights of the world, Edison optimistically devoted himself to the research of durable filaments which are affordable to everyone. However, Edison encountered numerous mistakes which were enough to beat any other people. Despite such depressing facts, Edison optimistically persisted in the development and stepped out the most important step in the process. Finally, after experiencing 2000 times of failures, Edison successfully found the carbonized threadbare filament which kindled the nights of people all around the world, who, in turn, regarded this invention as the landmark of human history. Hadn’t Edison kept optimistic to the existence of everlasting filaments, he wouldn’t have developed the carbonized filament that has changed the mankind from perceptive to the faith, from surface to the core. In a world, optimism is the key to Edison’s success.
Besides the motivating story from Thomas Edison, the stunning story of Charles Lindbergh, who was the first man to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone, was also worth focusing. In 1917, a tycoon promised to award 2.5 million dollars to the first man flying across the Atlantic Ocean. Lindbergh took the challenge and drove his “Spirit of St. Louis” to the sky. It is 5 hours after start when Lindbergh started to feel the dumbness of the body and his optimistic view of life motivated him to continue the journey. It is 12 hours after beginning when he had the illusion of ghosts speaking to him and his optimistic view of flying encouraged him to stay focused on his flight. What’s more, it is 24 hours after setting out when he faced the coldest time in a day and his optimistic view of time helped him to withstand the chilling condition and move on. Eventually, he made his way to Paris and became the first man in history that was in New York yesterday and in Paris the day after. He was regarded the pioneer of aviation by the European and American people, who are encouraged by his magnificent achievement and started to view aviation as the most important way of transportation. Above all, hadn’t Lindbergh held to his optimistic belief, he wouldn’t have achieved so much and brought aviation to have such popularity today.
