So I found out I'm not going to Cornell University today, and now I must start my Plan B. The thing is, given the economy as it is, the number of colleges I can apply to has limited. So if you could help me chance these and cut them down for me, that'd be great!!

GPA: 3.77 UW
Rigor: 9 (out of 10) AP Classes, 3 Honors Classes, and 2 College-Level Classes out of a total of 28 classes
Class Rank: 46/440
SAT: 2150 (770M, 690CR, 690W); retook in December, pretty confident I got 2300+, but definitely not sure
SAT II's: 800 Math I, 750 Math II, 700 US History, 680 Biology-E
AP's: US History-5, Biology-4, Physics C: Mechanics-2, Calculus AB-4, English Language-4

Extracurriculars/Awards
- Violin w/ awards and leadership
- Journalist for local student-run newspaper
- Captain of State-Placing Knowledge Bowl team
- Varsity Track and Field
- National Merit Commended
- AP Scholar w/ Merit
- JV Cross Country
- City Youth Commission Board Member
- Key Club Board Member
- some other stuff

Chances to:
- Ivies (Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia)
- Georgetown
- Pomona
- Northwestern
- Johns Hopkins
- Carnegie Mellon
- Williams
- University of Washington
- University of Southern California

HYP and Columbia are probably super reaches for you (btw, don't list both your Math I & Math II score, your Math I score is useless).

Unless you applied for AEM, I think HYP is a bit quixotic. Columbia, depending about how passionate you are about going there, is a reach. I think Williams is in that same boat.

Georgetown, NW, JH, and Pomona are all good matches for you. If your SATs are better (2250+), then I think you can be pretty sure about these schools.

UW, Carnegie Mellon, and USC should be shoo-ins/IN, although I'd shy away from USC since you most likely didn't apply for merit-based financial aid by the December 1st deadline, and the tuition for USC isn't worth going there.

Hmm. I don't see a reason why you were rejected from Cornell (except for your sub-par ec's). I got deferred from Cornell myself, so don't feel bad about it.

You actually applied to a lot of the same schools as I did last year, I posted my results in the results thread up there so take a look if you like. Good luck!

Yeah...I thought I would at least get deferred...even though my GPA is a little low...but my class rigor is very high! argh...

Thanks raysurace! I have a friend who's a freshman at Northwestern, and he's the one who convinced me to apply. Your stats were almost the same as me (except for GPA and class rank), so I hope that your results can be the same as mine.
