So I'm new to the site but am in the late stages of deciding which schools to apply to. My problem is this: I feel I could get into Colby if I do ED2 there, but I'm sure my chance would diminish if I didn't. The only reason I wouldn't do ED2 there is because there are some other schools on my list I might like to go to also, the only problem is that I think they're reaches. So any help on chances would be greatly appreciated. I'm applying to Bates, Colorado College, Connecticut College, Colby, Claremont Mckenna and Washington & Lee, Hobart and St Lawrence
I should preface my this all by explaining that in my junior year I was expelled after being caught drinking twice. I went on a three month outdoor trip in Mexico and then repeated my junior year at a new school. I'm not sure how this weighs on my profile; some people told me a lot, others say not much at all. Either way, my grades at my first school were poor and at my new school are very good; I've been on Honor Roll every semester at new school so far.

Great recs and essays

I'm pretty worried about not getting into most of the schools except for Hobart and St Lawrence. Despite my expulsion I think my recs speak to my good nature and character and will help me out a lot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tyler, I know this isn't much help, but I'm also unsure about how all that weighs on your profile. You are in at Hobart and St. Lawrence. Also, I think you have excellent chances at Colorado and CT. College. W&L and CMC will probably be the toughest. Unsure on Bates and Colby. Best of luck!

Tyler, I know of someone who looked at Ct. College and liked it a lot. Don't know if they are going though. I also know of someone who went to CMC and loved it. Apparently, you can also take classes at the other schools (Pomona, etc). It sounded like it was in a good location. Also, sounded like the kids were very friendly. I know it is pretty conservative as is W&L. Are you planning on playing lacrosse? Have you been able to visit any of them?

Yup I've looked at all the schools on my list and loved them all, especially Colby and Claremont. I'm planning on playing lacrosse, especially as it would help me get in, but I haven't talked to all the coaches yet.

Bates and Colby would be difficult for you to get in RD. They have gotten very competitive as of late. ED at Colby if it's what you really want to do :)

Thanks for the opinion. So my predicament is this; I like Claremont McKenna more than Colby. Initially I was going to apply to Colby EDII but now I feel like I want to do EDII to Claremont. I feel like this is a huge gamble though because with my lacrosse I could probably (I think) get into Colby EDII, but I'm guessing I won't get into CMC. So then if i get rejected from CMC and then Colby I'm stuck. Any opinions?

Tyler, do you know if CMC admits most of their applicants through ED? If you do decide to do ED at CMC is it possible to get an interview with admissions? That may help out a lot as they can put a face with the student who is applying. Also, is it possible to have your Guidance Counselor convey that this is your number 1 school when he sends in your info. Colby, on the other hand does seem like less of a gamble and I would hate to see you possibly miss out on that school. If you do apply to CMC, I would try and relook at some of your other schools (or add some new schools) so you can get a better feeling about them just incase things don't work out. You may get a more positive feeling the second time around. Best of luck!

I sent them an email asking what percent of EDII applicants they accept compared to RD but havent heard back yet. I already had an interview and in the same email expressed my interest and my counselor said she would too. Im thinking I'm not going to apply EDII because theres such a slim chance that I would get in and might be wasting a chance at another great school. I'm pretty sure that CMC is about as tough for me to get into as Harvard for others so we'll see. Also they value EC's so much, and I dont have many. Thanks for your help.
