Junior, went from okay grades in freshman year to getting straight As starting second semester of sophomore year (this year I'm taking two APs). This past summer, I made the unfortunate mistake of taking Bio Honors Research, my first science since 8th grade. It was the hardest class I've ever taken, and I got a C for the first semester and a B the second. Though it was a great learning experience for me, I'm worried about how big of a blemish it will be on my transcript. Both grades go toward my junior GPA. How do you think the application reviewers look at this? Thanks a lot all

............bump

Depends on where you're aiming for, whether you're trying to be a science major, what the rest of your stats are, etc, etc. Really, we can't tell you much.

However, if it makes you feel any better, I've gotten 5 (count 'em, 5) C's in high school, two of them my junior year, and I just got into USC. So relax - you can't do much now. Keep up the rest of your grades, and if you feel this is a major anomaly, mention it (unobtrusively) somewhere in your application.

It really depends on where you are applying... Just hold tight and make sure you don't mess up again and you will be fine.
