I thought to start a thread so people can share their eFile date and the date IRS Data Retrieval Tool pulled the Data from IRS to FAFSA.

I eFile on 1/29, IRS accepted my Return 1/30 I will get a $$ return Electronically deposit in my Bank Account. I am Still waiting for DRT to pulled my Data.

I efiled 1040 with HRBlock.com on Saturday, February 8th, and was able to use the DRT today - so 6 days including Sunday.

For my child with a 1040EZ who filed at the same time through the same service, I was able to use the DRT a couple of days ago, but waited to do it together with mine today.

Sorry to interrupt this thread but is this tool necessary if I have already completed my fafsa? I only figured out what it was today (I thought it was the same as the IDOC because the both had I’s… I know it doesn’t make any sense) and I’m hoping it won’t be too late to complete if I absolutely need to.

How do you know when you can use the DRT? I filed my taxes today, but already got a notice that the IRS accepted them. Can I do it now, wait, what?

You have to wait until the return is processed. After a few days check ‘Where’s My Refund’ on the IRS site. When your refund is close to being sent/deposited you could try. If you owed money with the return you can’t use the DRT until you make payment.

^^ When you own money, even the payment has been taken from your account, you still have to wait. My payment has been cleared for 3 days, it still says it cannot retrieve my tax info by using DRT.

Sorry, I thought that I could answer the one question quickly and get this thread back on track. This is a Resource thread for people to post the number of days between tax submittal and ability to use the DRT in FAFSA, it is not for general discussion/questions about the DRT.

If you have a question about use of the DRT, please use the New Discussion button to start a new thread, DO NOT IT POST HERE. Further OT comments will be deleted.

E-filed 2/15 with H&R Block, DTR 2/21, refund due (might have been available a day or two earlier, I did not check daily). IRS “where’s my refund” does show “refund approved” today as well. Have not checked that in a few days either.

Yippee!!! It’s finally available! Filed electronically Saturday, February 15 (using IRS FreeFile) and made payment of remaining taxes due at the same time (also electronically). The money was pulled from my checking account the next business day (Feb. 18) . . . but the DRT remained unavailable until TODAY. And now it works! Yippee!!!

Helpful hint:
Since it’s a PITA to check DRT availability every day through FAFSA, I switched a few days ago to using the IRS [Get Transcript](Get Transcript | Internal Revenue Service) tool. It takes a few minutes to sign up (okay, maybe even more than a few minutes . . . :-S ), but once you’re signed up, it takes only a moment to check back each day and see if your transcript is available. And once it’s available there, it’s also available using the DRT. For me, it was a HUGE timesaver!

Yay, glad it finally worked for you! That’s a great hint about the transcript tool, because it is indeed a huge pain to check via FAFSA. When I do my older son’s once his taxes are filed (May deadline for returning student, so no hurry on his) we’ll definitely use that hint!
