<p>As far as I know you do have to go in and use the “make corrections” option. I have been doing it almost daily. I just don’t submit it. Also, I don’t think you are supposed to keep on changing amounts in accounts.</p>

<p>I did not bother with the retrieval tool and just updated both children’s FAFSA’s, which took about 2 minutes. </p>
<p>Here’s an update to my April 9, 2014 post. Our son was finally able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool today (after filing and paying his taxes on 2/12/2014). Hopefully other first time filers who owed money to the IRS will be able to use the tool very soon.</p>
