Point Park Dorming

My daughter will be attending PP in the Fall and needs to select a dorm. Any suggestions or comments about the different dorming options?

If they are a freshmen their options are either Lawrence or Thayer Hall.

Both buildings give you an option for single, double or triple (meaning how many people are in each room)

Thayer: Pros. The building is newer and is a bit nicer then the other. You have AC units in each room so its pretty nice in the beginning and end of the year. Cons: There are no individual bathrooms. Each floor has a communal bathrooms, 1 for guys and one for girls. There are separate showering units but you gotta share the same toilets and stuff. The nice thing is the bathrooms are cleaned by the staff.

Lawrence: Pros: each room has its own bathroom that you share with your roomies. Also this is the building that the cafeteria and cafe are located in. Also most of the offices and classrooms are in this building so easy access. Cons: No AC so it gets pretty hot, especially if you are on the 20th floor. Its also a bit older.

Conclusion: most people I know say that Thayer is better for guys while Lawrence is preferred for girls because of the private bathrooms.

You should definitely visit the school though

ORRRR you can just live in Oakland where most students live off campus. Point Park Does not require freshmen to live in the dorms the first year and you save a ton of money by living off campus. Most student life happens in Oakland anyway

-Hope this helps

Yes that definitely helps. She did visit last year, but is not sure where she wants to live. Just trying to get some feedback on the different options.

She will be a transfer student so she can choose any of the dorming options. I was told that students attending PP get first crack so there may not be a choice other than Thayer or Lawrence.

Do you have any information on the Sophomore dorms?

I think that perhaps she should live on campus at least for the first semester or first year.
