Polishing new boots?

Hi, I got my new boots from an Army base in Washington. They are bellevilles (i know that bates makes them also) and I was just wondering whether we should be polishing them or not. I read on the “caring for your boots” tag that they do not suggest polishing them much or else they will lose their breathability. So I was just wondering whether we need to be polishing them. I’m also starting to wear them around to break them in. I’m glad that I got them early…

I hear you still have to polish them

We haven't gotten any guidance on whether or not we'll have to make you you guys shine those. If I had to guess, I'd say you will. I wouldn't worry about it before you come. Focus a lot more on breaking them in; that'll be a much better use of your time. You do NOT want to show up to BCT with shiny boots, unless you love tons of attention.

I think I may have allready mentioned this in another post, but we had the same boots in enlisted basic training at Lackland. We all noticed the tag too, and tried to get out of polishing. It didn't work. I know there are Sergeants from Lackland that help to oversee BCT. I'd bet if they have any say in the matter, we'll all be polishing the breathability right out our boots.

You can bet that if it's just left up to the cadre, you all will be polishing them too. ;)

I ordered my boots, Mine are the belleville 700 somethings.... are those ok?

As long as they're the kind the rest of your class will be issued, yes.

I am trying to find out about the boots for basic. If anyone knows the brandname, number, or any other information about the boots we are supposed to have for basic (class 09), please reply. Thanks

I was given this site for boot information, and I'm 99% sure that it is correct.

I ordered mine from the belleville website

I got the USA/USAF approved 700 or something like that

they seem to be the ones that the academy is telling us to get (I hope so)

here's the websites

Awesome. That was the exact information that I needed. Thanks a lot.

Am I the only one that got the Bates kind? I thought the other ones were a bit wide in the heel and snug in the toe...

That might have something to do with the width that you purchased.... I had to go up a size because I have a wierd foot... and I got them in the wide size for the same reasons.

I've been in Civil Air Patrol for 5 years now and I've always worn Corcoran II field Boots and I thought they were comfortable, but these blow them out of the water!!!

I have narrow feet, so I don't know what the deal with the tight toe was. Yeah, these are pretty comfortable. I also got the cheap little inserts that make it even more comfortable. Only problem is they make it a smidge cramped in my boots, so I don't know if I'll use them or not.

You guys and girls that bought them online - did that work out ok for you? Fit ok? We were advised by Mr. Richardson at the USAFA NOT to buy them online. My son would like to get his before he leaves, but we are having trouble finding a convenient time to go to the base and get them.

We ordered for my daughter online from AAFES. We ordered 2 pairs of the boots in 2 different sizes. One is perfect, so we'll just exchange and order the 2nd pair in the correct size. The customer service people on the phone were really nice and also very helpful.

Good luck!

AFAMom;
I ordered my son's boots directly from Belleville Boots. he normally wears a size 11. The Bellville Boots do run true to size. I don't know about the Danner Boot.

Thanks for the help!

I think it's best to try them on. During the orientation they were selling belleville and bates-basically identical boots. After talking with many, half said they were true to size and the other half said they ran big. One guy said he wore a size 13 shoe and needed a size 11 boot. But for the most part, for those who said they ran big, they all just needed a half a size smaller than their shoe size.

Be careful with the "gel" inserts, sometimes they give your foot less support than when you don't use them
