Political Science

Hey guys, just wondering if there are any transfers that can give insight to the Political Science dep at UMich! Also, what was your transfer GPA at the time you applied to UMich? Thanks in advance.

My son is a Junior at Michigan and minoring in Poli Sci. He likes the professors in the department, says it’s a mix of liberal/conservative views. His favorite professor so far in the dept. was a former Navy seal, who got his PhD and teaches at Michigan - he loved the guy.

For many many years, Michigan was ranked #1 in the country. That ranking has shaded down to #3 or so. That said, it ties into the largest survey research center in the world The Institute for Social Research ( http://home.isr.umich.edu/ ). It also joints runs a fairly huge national level enterprise in political research which it jointly manages with Stanford. The professors are highly published: As an undergraduate poli-sci student, it seemed that half of my assigned readings were published by Michigan. Clearly, one of the finest such departments in the country. If you attend Michigan you will also be able to tie into the Ford School (top 10 or maybe top 5) public policy school.

Oh wow! Well thank you guys for sharing your insight. This is my dream school so I am trying to learn everything I can about it and what will look good on my transcripts for this school.
