Poll: Most overrated and Underrated college On these boards

overrated: Truman, Northwestern, Yale

underrated: Wash U

overrated: your opinion
underrated: mine ;)

all4thesport is right in some of the aspects.

this is an opinion board. but, alot of the opinions are probably based on biases.

and I do believe that those who were rejected from a particular school would call it "overrated"

Actually not every post is opinion. A lot of them contain stats and numbers that are just facts. The interpretation of them, however, may be subject to personal biases.

How would anyone really know if any school is overrated unless they've been there? Notice how much of the "Underrated" schools are ones people have attended, but how many of you are attending/attended your overrated?

no one knows for sure what is underrated/overrated. as people stated before: it is just an opinion. this opinion is probably based on what they have read on CC, what they have learned through the admissions process, what they have heard from people that go to the school, what they learned from visiting the school, etc.

Most overrated: all of the UCs + Amherst
Most underrated: CUNY Honors (it's not exactly a single undergraduate college, but it's (the program) still really overlooked on this website), Cooper Union, TCNJ (I agree; it's not amazing, but it's also not bad), Pepperdine

Overated: NYU Tisch...they are riding on a reputation they had many years ago.
(just my opinion)

Oh, by the way, I didn't even apply there, so it's NOT sour grapes.

overrated: NYU... this is pretty biased seeing as how my state university is UVA, which beats NYU to the ground ;) so comparing the two's statistics, I don't see where all the hype about NYU is coming from. Also, GWU, U of MD, and Georgetown undergrad (gtown grad is really good though)

in the middle: William & Mary... a lot of people don't apply there because it's very selective (as compared to UVA) and not as highly ranked as UVA (though close). it's a great school though.

underrated: Seven Sisters (any of the top LACs probably)

oh, also, a lot of people keep saying the Ivies are overrated... but look at it realistically: if someone from a state uni and someone from Harvard were applying for a job, the Harvard grad would have a SERIOUS edge on the state uni graduate. and you can't really say the Ivies (and MIT, Stanford, Duke, etc) have an overrated education, either... there is a reason they're internationally acclaimed, after all ;)

NYU is getting a serious beating on this thread!

yea, nyu is def. getting rocked...

funny thing is...i got accepted and will attend there :)

NYU CLASS OF 2010 OWNS YOU

nyu is really all about location

its "overrated" because its not of "ivy caliber"+ its a dream school for everyone

cimmorque, i live in Sterling, Virginia, and UVA is also my state school...but damn, screw UVA...but if youre into uggs and jcrew...enjoy uva! ;)

I don't think the Ivies are overrated really, I just think that people tend to blindly focus on them, which I think is also what other people are trying to say.

Don't know about Overrated...

Underrated: Pomona, Duke (It's funny that its one of the top schools in the country but really not talked about much on these boards for some reason, why is that? Maybe I'm missing it.) WUSTL, Wakeforest, Vanderbilt, Most Mid-West schools.

overrated-definitely nyu (no campus and no social life- i attended a summer program there and no one talks to each other at all) and bu
underrated- bc, u. illinious urbana

"overrated-definitely nyu (no campus and no social life- i attended a summer program there and no one talks to each other at all)"

i think that's bit of an exaggeration, dont you think?

Oh I forgot...another really overrated one is Georgetown.

Overrated: Harvard, GW
Underrated: St. John's, Reed, Grinnell, LAC in general

Why does everyone think George Washington is overrated? I applied there.
