I am in AP Government too. Are you sure your poll doesn't have to be of registered voters?

Obama
1. His foreign policy of "why don't you talk to Iran" is what I want to hear.
2. I don't know about you but my families economic situation has gone down since Bush has been office (I am very anti-Bush). I don't want someone in office who has been trying to kiss GB butt for eight years.
3.John McCain was a POW and when he can home he was very anti-torture. When he needed to get in good standing with Bush he supported him on taking away more rights of prisoners of war. Anyone how has been through that and still would do that either has no back bone or is just plain cold.
4. I was a McCain fan in the 2000 election but he has changed so much and my biggest reason for not supporting him. SARAH PALIN. Coming from the bible belt a lot of my friends love her. I am so scared of her becoming President and lets face it John McCain isn't in the best of health (No Country For Old Men lol)

McCain
Finish the war in iraq, i think adding socail programs as we're going into a recession is a bad idea, obama opposes a global market, i'm pro-life.

southeasttitan, I was actually just stating one reason I wouldn't vote for Obama. I've always maintained my opinion that his economic policies are socialist in nature [Okay I want to rephrase my earlier post - I don't think that Obama IS a socialist, but his fiscal policies are definitely leaning in the direction of socialism]- even before FOX news and whoever else decided to blow it out of proportion. Why should people who can make more money have to be taxed more? Should welfare be increased and abused even more? I'd love to help people who genuinely need help get up on their feet, but MANY people abuse welfare checks and more welfare isn't the answer. And, uh tax cuts for 95% of citizens? 40% of citizens here don't even PAY income tax in the first place. So are we giving them.. um.. tax credits? For the tax they're not paying? Or are we just handing them money for doing nothing? Obama does want to raise taxes and "spread the wealth," which is something he's admitted to and is proud of. How is spreading the wealth around a good thing? Raising taxes on the wealthy and redistributing it to the "less fortunate" is definitely heading toward socialism. McCain is really a classical Democrat {maybe 1970s ish} and Obama has just gone more left-wing than America has ever really seen before.

And if I just elaborate on why I would vote for McCain, here I go: almost all social issues, though I am pro-choice [simply because a stolidly "pro-life" stance would prohibit ALL abortions and I think abortions should be legal in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother's life is in danger; I've just been around way too many people that use abortion as a form of birth control], I want smaller government, NOT universal health care, I like the "all-of-the-above" thing for alternative energy and energy independence, I like the 2nd Amendment, I think we need to stop [errrr obviously just try a bit more to stop] illegal immigration but we need to make a much clearer path to and promote legal immigration [as for the illegal immigrants who are already here, I suppose we pretty much have to give them a path to citizenship, because we won't really be able to deport ~12 million of them - although that is the worst negative reinforcement evarrrr], I don't think that paying more taxes so that money can be given to those who are "less fortunate" is patriotic - patriotic would be just donating money to people in need, not being forced by the government to give that money, I support stem cell research [for, like, left-over embryos after fertility treatments that are just going to be trashed anyway], uh, I think minimum wage should not go up because it spirals the economy into inflation, I think we need private Social Security, aaaand because I don't think that Keynesian economic policies are going to help the country [yeah obviously they would help overall right NOW, but in the long run], etc.
Lol I need to be doing my scholarship essays.. urhglakwe

Obama
-his energy policies
-his economic policy with taxing the wealthy and tax cuts to the middle class
-wants to leave Iraq safely while going to Afghanistan where there is more violence and Pakistan, where Osama Bin Laden probably is

15
Obama
I like his energy policies
I like his tax plan better
GTFO of Iraq, ASAP, and pour our resources into Afghanistan
If McCain dies while in office...yeah scary.
Time for the GOP to move over, they've screwed over our generation by doubling the national debt from $5 to $10 trillion dollars.

I try to stay independent, but as you can see it's kind of hard for me with the last 8 years being so bad(Don't like the Dems too much either, but they are a hell of a lot better than the Republicans)

Chuck Baldwin
Bob Barr is just another GOP whose been pretending to be a libertarian. It disgusts me, and Baldwin is much closer to an ideal candidate. Sure, both of them restrict civil liberties, but Barr has both fought constantly against the decriminalization of drugs and is pro-life (only one can be said of Baldwin.) It's so sad to see what the Libertarian Party has become, just washing up Republicans looking for a new audience...

Obama (only turned one after H. Clinton lost)
- Getting out of Iraq; those Iraqis have a huge surplus to bring their own nation together
- Affordable health care: would prefer it to be universal, but whatev. It's about time the world's most influential nation did something about trying to help their citizens. It's absolutely ludicrous to imagine that small countries like South Korea have universal healthcare while the U.S. forces citizens to pay $100,000+ for some cancer medications. That's just atrocious and frankly disgusting.
- Fed up with McCain saying everything Obama does is socialist. But then, it's just a pity that McCain can't comprehend the benefits Obama's policies will bring, and that's a real shame for such an old guy.

^ i think those countries are able to have universal health care partially because of small populations. But I agree, health care needs to be approved.

Neither candidate is particularly appealing, but for this poll I'll pick McCain.
-Health care, tax policies, and economic policy.

I applaud Obama's plan (or at least, his desire) to get us out of Iraq, but I also question his abilities to lead us during a time of crisis (which is likely to occur, given our current state of economics). On the other hand, McCain has loads of experience and, if dropped in the middle of a warzone, at least has a tried-and-tested plan of action. However, our current foreign policy is most likely going to stay the same with him in office. And that isn't all too desirable.

And people, stop voting for candidates because "the other party sucks," or some other stupid superficial quality based on popular opinion. You've been granted intelligence, it's time you start using it.

dislikes: loose border security. i go to a public school in LA in the LAUSD distict (Los Angeles Unified School District) and it is a freakin joke. It is 90% hispanic and in a schoolwide poll, only 14% of the school responded that they care about school. There is grafitti everywhere, campus is hideous, and our tax dollars could be spent in much better areas. The average GPA is below a 2.3.

King818, you idiot, those statistics you provided has nothing to do with the race of the students who go there. I know predominantly white schools and predominantly black schools with the same numbers and conditions. The average GPA should be around a 2.0 at schools without grade inflation, because a "C" is technically average, and lots of high school kids don't care about school. Moreover, I would bet most of the Hispanic kids at your high school are legal anyway.

What you said is nothing short of racist, and I don't toss that term around lightly.

King818, my school is mostly white, and in OUR schoolwide poll, only 6% of the school responded that they care about our school. Our GPA is probably where yours is. Does that mean anything about white people in general? No, just like your statements mean nothing about hispanics.

While this may be slightly offensive, the hispanic population being 90% is truth stated...I probably live 1~2 hours away from where this guy lives, if I'm estimating correctly, and I have a couple friends in the LA district who state the truth. I'm not sure what he was trying to say, but that the conditions are fairly horrible (but then there are many environments like that in this country) out there (I know a couple friends who go to these schools).

Whether he stated that it's a joke because it's 90% hispanic, or just as a fact, I have no clue.

But yeah. For every dumb hispanic I can name an equally dumb asian/white.
