Well, I’m in a bit of a confusion. When i applied for Pomona i put my major as Graphic Design and i was planning on doing that but after much discussion and thought with my parents and friends i want to be an Engineer. I was wondering if i go to Pomona is there any possible way of being an engineer over there? I really like the school and campus and everything about it. please help me. thanks

I can say that it’s pretty close to impossible. Engineering is one of the most impacted major at Cal Poly Pomona. Doesn’t hurt to try though, good luck.

Engineering is VERY competitive at Cal Poly Pomona. Call the College of Engineering first to see if you can change majors prior to enrolling. Highly unlikely imo. Because you have already declared your major I would guess you would have to wait for a year before they would allow change of majors. First, do very well on the math placement test. I suggest that you register for only GE classes during orientation. Try to ace and I mean ACE all your classes your first three quarters…I would suggest you also make sure to take all your GE “B” requirements which are Math and Science and make sure you do very well in those areas. Check in with the counseling/career center and find out the logistics of trying to get into engineering. You may have to prove you are up to the workload so make sure you keep your grades as high as possible…engineering is NOT a four year program, so you will need to plan on being there an extra year at least. Good luck.

Wow, getting accepted to Harvard would be easier! I’m exaggerating, but there is no way this could happen. Well, unless you have something higher than a 4.0, then you might have a chance…

From what I’ve heard, you have to stick with your major for at least one quarter. I applied as a Fall 2011 transfer for graphic design too and am thinking about switching my major… Also, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering aren’t impacted, according to their website. You should check it out.
