***Pomona College Class of 2022 Applicants Thread***

@DyingInside I asked my counselor if she got an email, but she said she didn’t see anything, but maybe bcuz it might be in her spam.

and thank you @nostalgicwisdom for your insightful comments!!! :slight_smile: we really, really appreciate it.

@enenalal Same here… it didn’t show up on my portal. I think I’ll make sure with my counselor tomorrow, but as there doesn’t seem to be a clear association between grades requests and decisions let’s not get too stressed over this haha!

Same situation here. Counselor never received an email for grades. Don’t know what that means.

Yeah, I’m questioning their methods too. What if an applicant didn’t check their portal and their counselor never received an email? It seems a little odd that they would request grades this late in the game. 2 days sometimes are not enough to get everything ready, especially if the school doesn’t operate on quatre reports.

I’m speculating. If you didn’t get a personal email from an AO, you are either no longer considered for admission (didn’t make it in) or you are already accepted and don’t need senior grades to validate your position. Not to cause any anxiety but maybe borderline applicants receive a personal request because they really really need to see those grades? So, based on the nature of your grade request, you are either borderline or on one of the 2 extremes.

Im waiting for that rejection letter…ha.ha.ha.ha.

@NebbyBag Besides the decision date, did the email say anything else?

@NebbyBag You just articulated my speculation so well! That was exactly what I was thinking, too! I think the portal grade request is just an automatic, standard feature for everyone’s portals. I have been suspecting this since my portal has FA info and it said awaiting FAFSA, when I am not applying for FA.

I think the grade requests work the same way. It is on there to remind the students who need to submit these documents.

Now I am really nervous, knowing that I am borderline and my fate is being decided over the next two days (or maybe has already been decided this afternoon). I am actually unable to do any work or function, in general, today because I can’t get this out of my mind (which is a bad strategy for the regular round, if I need it).

@gnowr35 Nebbybag didn’t get an email. For mine, (I hope I can disclose this), it said: we need ___ (my name)'s current grades to deliberate in the ED committee as results are coming out this Friday. Thank you so much!

The email was succinct, casual and polite. My counsellor and I both love my AO!

Just curious (and for potential stat purposes), whose counsellor got personal emails and whose didn’t?

@NebbyBag
But what do you think for people who’s schools submitted their quarter grades automatically in early November? I never got a request, but the quarter grade green check mark did not show up until today. I was wondering if they ever got my quarter grades but I guess they received them but haven’t looked at them until now?

I don’t think my counselor ever got an email, or at least none that I know of…she had already uploaded my Q1 grades for another school so I think Pomona requested them on my application but then saw it was already on and just put the green check mark. AHH IM SO NERVOUS! I REALLY REALLY WANT TO GET IN POMONA IS MY DREAM SCHOOL! GOOD LUCK TO ALL :)))

@gnowr35 Yup! I never got an email. It was Quiches.

@Quiches Thank you so much for showing us your email! It certainly seems like you are a borderline student. Best of luck to you and I’m sure you have a great chance of admission. If we base theories from past results, students who received emails for grade report have a high percentage of acceptance! Also Joel Hart is a legend :smiley:

@jcocc They definitely received your Q1 then. I guess whether they choose to view it or not depends on if you are borderline or already accepted/denied, if my speculation is sound.

What if my counselor does not submit my quarter grades? I go to a big school and my counselor tends to not reply to me for weeks in some cases. And I basically need this in by tomorrow…I sent her an email today and she ( of course haha) did not respond or submit the grades.

It would be quite surprising if the difference between a possible deferral and acceptance was one’s quarter grades. When I imagine committee, I always envision them debating ECs/essays/recs/backgrounds etc. never grades…but then again, what do I know ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@NebbyBag You are totally welcome, I want to disclose all the info I can to help out! Hahaha, why do you say Hart is a legend? But he does seem like a fun, interesting individual!

@jcocc This is another variable! Many schools send Q1 grades as soon as they have it and due to that, many people probably don’t need to get requested! Another unknown in this complex research, haha.

@1wanttogotoCMU Go and see your counsellor in person tomorrow if possible. The grades are assumed to be quite important (or else they won’t be looking for them) and please don’t let your school size interfere with your chances.

@gnowr35 Me too! I always thought ECs and great essays totally overshadow a few percentages in one senior course. But again, I don’t know either!

@1wanttogotoCMU
Can you find her in person tomorrow?

@Quiches lol pardon me. I use a lot of colloquial language when I’m sleep deprived. If you don’t know this already, go follow Mr. Hart’s twitter account @pomonajoel! He posts a lot of wacky stuff, often on decisions day :slight_smile:

@NebbyBag Oh my gosh, don’t apologize! I wasn’t trying to say you were being disrespectful. I was genuinely curious as to why and if there is an anecdote or something, and I agree with you!

I have on occasion (*read: all the time) stalked his Twitter and he is indeed very cool! (lowkey want to get to know him)

@1wanttogotoCMU if your counselor didn’t receive an email, try to contact them, but they can’t expect you to notice and be able to get grades in in time. I’m sure the admissions officers are aware that different students go to different schools with different levels of administrative help.

wow, those speculations sound legit @NebbyBag . i did not get an email also and i feel HECKA nervous. wow. i really, really hope we all get in…

and omg, 300 posts already!! wow o.o last year’s discussion thread hit around 260 at the end of the RD cycle; but we’re already on 300. LOL we’re all too excited :slight_smile:

@enenalal Glad to provide service :smiley:
Unfortunately, it is still nerve-wracking being on either side of the spectrum. Nothing has changed! Hahahaha

Remember when you first started this forum it was so quiet? This is going to be a hype class. I hope we all get to meet up at Pomona.

Ok I’m feeling a bit paranoid. I’m going to go try to find my counselor tomorrow morning and ask her to submit the grades. But one last question: What if you were an applicant who didn’t track CC, how would you know if you even need to submit the grades if you weren’t actively checking the application status and your counselor didn’t get an email?
I have a feeling my counselor just did not receive an email about the quarter grades.
