***Pomona College Class of 2022 Applicants Thread***

Also - I don’t know if they asked this during the directors chat - but interviews are marked as important on the CDS but are referred to as optional which is confusing. Does that mean it doesnt matter if you dont do it but if you do do it then it is a major factor?

@NebbyBag Thank you so much! That helps quite a bit! *while sobbing in the corner about my Q1 grades, what if my school does not have Q1 grades?

@gnowr35 Yeah, I had the same question too since I didn’t request an interview since I thought it was PURELY optional and for asking questions about Pomona. I already knew I wanted to ED to Pomona a long time ago.

They said that while it does go into your folder, a lot of applicants dont get interviews anyway so its nothing to worry. I referred to their latest CDS and they said it was apparently outdated and didn’t reflect the importance of the interview since there’s only 4 categories. So I guess its probably what you’re thinking gnowr.

My daughter who is now a sophomore did not have an interview. We found out about them too late. She had a ton of interviews for other elite colleges, but not for Pomona where she is now a happy Sagehen. Don’t stress over the lack of an interview. Fingers crossed. Good Luck!

https://admissions.pomona.edu/portal/destination

Is this link outdated? It says error this is only for accepted students. Does this just mean they haven’t put any results in?

@1wanttogotoCMU Wow! I just checked and I had the same thing! I assume that they are starting to queue up the decisions on the portals now. (*suspense intensifies)

@IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII @gnowr35 Requesting an interview is a demonstration of interest and although Pomona says it doesn’t track interest, every applicant should request one because it does go into your file (and in competitive admissions, everything counts). However, if you didn’t request one early enough, don’t bother worrying about it. It is a very small part of admissions and if you did your essays well, the admissions should have a great picture of you.

@gnowr35 I don’t remember anything about extracurriculars, sorry  They did mention interviews though. It is totally not a big deal to not have one. In fact, most of the international students do not have one. I can’t think of any other information right now. Maybe if you ask me specific questions I may remember some stuff.

@1wanttogotoCMU Ok mine says 403 Forbidden - This portal is only for admitted students. Hahah I hope this doesn’t mean anything.

@NebbyBag I I think any hint at a possible admission would only show up the day of/days before the official admissions decision. I get the same message but I’m not really thinking anything of it (as it would be crazy if they were already done)

@gnowr35 You’re completely right  I’ll just take this opportunity to prank some people and tell them I got rejected. I’m a sick person lol

Guys we all got rejected…

Is there any Questbridge peeps lurking on the thread? I hear that some QB people hear back tomorrow.

Hey guys, I’m new to this thread and have just been catching up on the 9 pages of helpful info:) I didn’t apply ED anywhere, but I did have a RD interview about a week ago. It went great! It was a casual conversation that lasted about an hour and a half. I actually don’t remember my interviewer asking me a single straight forward question– one topic just naturally flowed to the other. If you are having one, definitely don’t stress and try your hardest to make them laugh. On the contrary, I am a little stressed about not having any SAT subject tests, does anyone know how heavily their wighted in the Pomona app process?

Anyways, just thought I’d share a little piece of my experience. Do you guys mind sharing your college lists? I’m curious to see where fellow Sagehen lovers are interested in. So far mine is:

Pomona
USC
UPenn
Williams
Dikinson
Maybe Brown?
A couple other state schools

QB students got matched today, apparently, 17/918 matched to Pomona

@oswidan if you read the earlier posts, it says the admissions officers looked more into the essays rather than your sat subject tests. don’t worry

I’ve applied to: UC’s, two 0-6 pharmacy schools
I’m applying to (if I get wrecked by Pomona, that is):

  • Scripps
  • USC
  • Stanford
  • Emory
  • Vanderbilt
  • Northwestern
  • Brown ?-not sure on this one, was initially my second choice but i’m not too sure now
  • two super safety schools

but then…POMONA. i want p o m o n a so badly. ahhhh i really hope i get in :’(

Congrats to people who got in by Questbridge! It must be so great being the first part of the class of 2022!

For the rest of us, it is another week (fingers crossed it is next Friday), has anyone gotten any grade requests yet?

yeah, the 25th percentile ACT score for Pomona dropped to 30 which was really interesting. I wonder if first gen is that notable to a lot of elite colleges, they usually note in whenever they make an article for their class of ____. not sure if that’s because they want more PR that way or if they do value first gen more than I expect.

@pomonathrowaway heh, good to see you virtual! sad that they implemented this self report thing after I sent 3 ACT scores and an SAT Subject test score, but oh well. Good for Pomona

Hey guys! I got admitted to Pomona’s Class of 2022 through Posse! Im very excited for you all to receive your decisions already and get to talk to you all!

@pomonathrowaway just wondering, for the percent in top 10%, it’s only for the schools that rank right?? o.o our school doesn’t rank so… I go to a very competitive high school in CA where soooo many ppl have high GPAs so I don’t know exactly where I fall LOL

@grodriguez and omg!!! congrats!!! I’m so jealous
