I just got accepted to Notre Dame and BC, but Pomona still remains as my top choice. I got waitlisted for Pomona and need some serious HELP getting noticed and hopefully get out of the waitlist (in a good way of course....). I'm trying to write a letter to them. So far, I've updated them on my EC (won some special award in japanese contest, said why i think i'll contribute to diversity).
Still, I'm wondering if anyone has any SPECIFIC positive quality that they can let me in on. I've pretty much read every guide in the college counseling office, and now I'm trying to think of specifics to why I think i fit in, and why i think pomona is a great school. PLEASE, PLEASE help me think of some reasons. Thank you so much.

The only suggestion I can give you is to point out ways that aren't reflected on your app. I think this helped me get in because in my app, i was pretty stereotypical (3.9 gpa, 33 act, sport, comm. service) but on my supplemental pomona essay i wrote about going to & supporting local music, which is totally different than most people (i would think... most people who go to shows are drop outs lol).

Anyway, i think your best bet is to do something that puts you in a different light. Good Luck!

thank you saasaa. I'll try to include some more unique aspects to increase my chances. But I was wondering if anyone knew some specifics about Pomona that would probably help me if I put it in. (i'm thinking of doing either political science or bio, but I don't know too many specifics aside from the fact that they have strong programs). So if anyone has any ideas.... please.. please let me know. Thank you

Without knowing your particular stats/strengths/weaknesses, it's difficult to offer specifics about Pomona that would help you get in. I'd recommend checking out the Pomona website and the bio and politics department websites to learn more about Pomona. I also strongly recommend calling the admission office and asking to speak with one of the admissions officer who read your application to inquire whether there were any SPECIFIC reasons you were waitlisted. Sometimes they can tell you where they would like to see some improvement...and sometimes they won't, but it never hurts to try. Good luck!

The most important thing for the Admissions Office to know is that, despite having been accepted to ND and BC, Pomona remains #1 on your list. If you can truthfully tell them that, if admitted, you will attend, then let them know. It's not a sure thing, but most admissions offices are more likely to admit students who will attend than not.

Good luck!

When would be the best time to call them? My counselor told me not to call them for a while b/c ppl who are rejected/waitlisted are going to be ****ed and send angry calls within this and next week. So.... when would be the best time for me to call?

do people really do that!?? people who want to go to pomona seem more chill than that haha. who knows though

yea... and i guess the last thing i wanna do is tick them off... lol

well i got responses to my emails this past week so i don't think it's bad to contact them

what should i say when i call them? Should I be direct and ask what was lacking in my application?

You could do that, or you could ask for "suggestions for improvement" or something to that effect.

sorry to steal this thread, but I'm in a similiar position with being on the pomona waitlist.
I was accepted to claremont mckenna and I'm actually going to be on campus this week. Is there any advice on what I should do on campus? I'm thinking of calling them and telling them about my situation and that I'll be visiting.

nice username! i love that song :D

I'm going to call them pretty soon.... what should I say?

Yeah, Chopsticks is a good song for beginning pianists.

Pretty sure the song was a reference to "fly like paper"

...anyway, especially if you didn't interview, let them know that you are still interested, that it's still your first choice, and that you will be on campus.

Even if you did interview it can't hurt

ok, i just called this saturday.

1) They said I can't interview (nor can any waitlist/rejected students)
2) lol... i was gonna say how interested i was, then the admissions officer said that he already read my letter, so that shut me up....
3) no certainty on waitlist yet (at least that's what they tell me)

so... i won 4th place in states for impromptu speaking in speech and debate (woop de freakin doo, but the trophy looks pretty nice tho). Am I suppose to send that stuff in or what?

Yes, send them the trophy :)

just kidding :P

WAYTLlST WHAT

well, I just sent in my "letter of interest," I have no idea if it'll do anything or not, but might as well try. Good luck to the rest of you fellow wait-listers!!
