For me, it depends on a) how I felt about the test/assignment while I was taking it (if I felt really confident, I wouldn’t feel good to know I failed) and b) what the subject is. I only judge myself on stuff I know I can help, though. If I couldn’t have done more than I did I won’t kill myself.
90 and above is great, 80-90 is blehh, 79 and under is depressing.

Y’all kids are fools if you think a C is a poor grade. Newsflash people: You aren’t gonna always get an A in college. It’s better to learn that sooner rather than later. Just like it’s better to have at least one college rejection rather than all acceptances. It teaches you that you aren’t perfect. And a lot of you tend to act like you are.

Anything below a 95 class grade needs improvement. While at my school an A is a 90-100, I prefer to have a solid A rather than being anywhere close to the edge.

I’m positive that my ideals will drastically change in college, but until then anything below an a is unacceptable.

Whoops double post.

Me: anything below a 95 in anything except science and I’m dissapointed/annoyed
My friends: anything below an 83 (lowest B)
Everyone else at my school: Anything below a C-

I get upset if I fail an assignment, but what I only really care about is whether I have an A or not for overall grades :)

In English/History courses anything below a 90 is upsetting.

In Science courses anything below an 85 is a little annoying.

In Math I’m just praying to pass!

Depends on the class. I’d go crazy if I got below an A in an English, language, or history class, but B+s make me happy in my math classes and the really difficult sciences. I obviously aim for As, but I’m not going to go beat myself up about a B if I tried my best. I guess I do consider below an A “poor” though. I generally don’t consider math a good subject for me as far as grades, and I’m usually a B or B+ student in that subject area.

Jade: why would you post that?

My goal for this year is to get all A’s. So anything under a 93% is poor.

I believe anything less than a B is considered poor.

inb4 the kids who cry about their b’s in college

@beachlover15, Because it’s true.

I personally will not let my grades fall below a 90 as to maintain a high GPA. I would consider a C (85-79 at my school) poor though.

anything below an 85 is a poor grade to me at least. I dont believe a B- is bad but definitely not something I want on a report card. The C range and lower to me is very poor.

You can’t extrapolate like that. Just because people think a C is a poor grade in high school doesn’t mean they will think the same in college. Obviously we are aware that college is generally more rigorous than high school. And I don’t know where you got on the subject of getting into college, but I think most kids on HSL know that we won’t be accepted to every college to which we apply. Also, you don’t know us, so I’m not sure how you could know how we act…

What’s the difference between getting a C in high school and getting a C in college? Tell me. Is there some chemical difference in a person’s brain in relation to seeing that grade based on the environment of a high school versus a college campus? I used a comparison to getting rejected from a college to show that what I was saying was bigger than just grades. And it’s easy to pick out a person’s personality from the way they act when they post in places like this.

The difference in course rigor leads to a difference in expectations. When you go through this thread you will see students who expect themselves, for example, to get all As, but a B in math is acceptable. Why? Because math is difficult for them. Similarly, in college students have the ability to recognize the increased course rigor and adjust their expectations accordingly.

The vast majority of posts are about students feeling stressed about some situation. The minority that are “bragging” may simply see college confidential as an outlet. You cannot discern a person’s real-life personality from an online forum. And regardless, most students on this forum are not behaving that way.

English courses: Anything less than a B+
Everything else: Anything less than an A

But since it’s already senior year, I’m giving my grades for yearlong courses(AP Psych and AP Comp Sci) some leeway.

For my undergrad years, it will depend on the institution’s rigor.

@Holocene. First off, it’s very easy for me to figure out a person’s personality from their posts. Second, I severely doubt what you’re saying. There are a lot of these “I can’t get lower than a B” students who will be in for a shock in college. They won’t be going, “It’s college. I can expect lower grades,” at first; they’ll be saying they can’t believe they didn’t get a single A.
