Possible College Switching??? HELP!

Does anyone think its possible for me to call admissions and asked to be changed from DUS into the College of Communications… still doing summer??? If so, does anyone have tips on what to say? I don’t want to call and have it be a completely waste of time, but I would like to change it.

P.S. When I called to switch my NSO date because of a previous engagement, they told me that would be fine, and that I could go with the College of Communications.

Any help/advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I will turn the question back around - what compelling reason do you have to switch from DUC to Communications. Being admitted as a DUS has virtually no impact on what classes you can take prior to official admission to major (JR year). In other words, you can take all classes, FR and SO years as though you were in Communications (the only exception might be freshman seminar (I believe some of these are restricted, but frankly you aren’t missing out on anything).

I was about to say the same thing as the above poster. We were surprised to find out at the accepted students day for DUS that being DUS doesn’t hurt your ability whatsoever to go into any major that isn’t a ‘direct entry’ major (like nursing that must start freshman year). Virtually any non direct entry major can be completed by starting in DUS - and 80% of people change their majors anyway. The people who were admitted to other majors aren’t actually “IN” their major until junior year anyway. They still have to complete the entry to major requirements - which you can also do as DUS.

BUT, if you really want to change majors, we were told at the accepted students day that you can change via your advisor at your NSO date. So maybe just wait until that date when you can be face to face with an advisor and flesh out your reasons and then change with the advisors help.

Since NSO was brought up, I should share a tip that I haven’t seen here before.

Spend some time looking at the recommended curriculum for your major before your attend NSO - you will have a leg up when it comes time to meet with your adviser. For some, there might be a whole lot of information being thrown at you in a very short amount of time - it will help if you have looked it over before you get there.

There is room set aside in the typical freshman classes so scheduling isn’t too bad, but or those who have special requirements (e.g. AP credits that put you in a more advanced class, trying to get honors classes, stuck with one of the later NSO dates, etc.) you might also want to take a look at schedule.psu.edu a week or so before your NSO date to see what sections of the classes you need work for you. Again, this will put you ahead of the pack if there are only a few slots left in one of the classes you need.

I forgot to post back on here but they let me switch it!
