Possible degree change for premed?

I am currently a sophomore completing a BS in molecular bio, but I am considering switching to a BA in biochem. My school only offers a BA in biochem, a BA in chemistry, and a BS in chemistry for students who want to pursue graduate school. I plan to apply to medical school, so I don’t feel the BS track is necessary for me, but would a BA in biochem be more useful than a BS in molecular bio?

I don’t mean will it necessarily look better to a med school, I know they don’t care, but will a BA in biochem open more doors just in case med school doesn’t work out? I figured maybe a harder science background with the biochem would be more beneficial than bio?

Medical schools do not really care about your major, although you need to take the pre-med courses regardless of your major. It is likely that either biochemistry or molecular biology will overlap with most of the pre-med science courses (depends on your school, of course), so they will be “convenient”.

Will the courses in a BA in biochem prepare you for grad school? Any undergrad science major will need to continue on to get an MS degree to advance beyond entry level jobs in any field.
