Possible eFAN disaster

So when I was accepting my efan i was offered 5000 in subsidized and 2400 UCLA academic scholarship.. I self reported 11,500 in scholarships (5000 of which is from a UCLA organization) and I just checked my Financial Aid Summary... It's showing that i'm only getting a $315 UCLA academic scholarship and no subsidized loans, but now i'm getting $5500 in an unsubsidized stafford loan.. ***? I thought that when they counted in scholarships they took away unsubsidized loans first.. What's going on? Am I really going to lose all this stuff because of my scholarships?

Has anyone had any experiences like this? I'm totally stressed out :(

haha nope - why would they? The subsidized ones are the ones that cost the gov money. Congrats on all the scholarships though

Taking away your subsidized loan makes sense if I remember correctly. I self reported a scholarship and that reduced my subsidized loans.

Declaring scholarships is a tricky game haha. If you can, you defer it to a time when you don’t have much money or your aid package sucks.

Well the thing is, this year I should be getting my worst financial aid package (my efc was unusually high). Blah, so pretty much my scholarships hurt me in the long run, pretty lame…

My parental contribution is $7000, do you think if I call them and tell them that my parents aren’t contributing anything that maybe they’ll give me some money back? I can’t believe how lame this is!

No, it won’t work.

I had one year where we had unusually high assets and we told them that the assets were my family’s retirement and 0 would be used for me. It doesn’t matter. The school has standards that it has to go by and just because your family isn’t contributing does not lead you to getting your money back :(.

where do you self report scholarships… I was awarded around 7k in outside awards?
