Possible to do a walk in audition when you dont pass prescreen?

Just curious about whether it is possible to do a walk in audition if you dont pass the prescreen. One of my daughter’s top schools just sent notification that she did not pass the prescreen. Probable that it isn’t the right fit but she did pass last year (she is taking a gap year this year to prepare for her auditiions, wasn’t ready to go off to college this year). I wonder what the feelings are about attempting a walk in audition in these circumstances. Better to just let it go or give it a shot. Do you share with the school that you didn’t pass the prescreen or just walk in and audition. Not trying to be sneaky, just wondering what the feelings are.

Thanks so much!

From my experience, If it’s an open walk in, you can definitely just sign up and audition. Just don’t “announce” you didn’t pass the pre-screen! If they happen to ask, then the truth is always best but chances are, if they’re doing open walk ins, they want to see as many people as possible with the time they have. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much, that does help a lot!

This is not one of the “major” unifieds, and perhaps these schools are not on your list, but Rider, Shenandoah, Wright State, Texas State and Alabama are having a mini-unified in NYC in January. The information specifically says that if you did not pass a prescreen for one of the schools, you may still audition at the unified and still be considered by all schools.

Thanks so much, we do have the open call on our schedule. I wish more schools combined at or near Unifieds. The dance calls are really causing havoc on the schedule. So appreciate the info!

If your kid did not pass the prescreen and the school uses Acceptd, chances are that the school will absolutely know that. They will have his/her video in their system by name, probably with notes on why they didn’t pass prescreen. Auditors can and do access Acceptd in the audition room, either to keep notes on in-person auditions or to review back the original prescreen video. Many also use Acceptd to create their audition schedules and check in lists. So, if you were to attempt a walk-in, you should be honest. Having said all that, and considering that the original prescreen video is easily accessible, if your child gets permission to walk-in, he or she better bring something completely new and amazing to the room, in my opinion.
