<p>My son scored a combined 215 on the PSAT here in Texas which is a 99th percentile composite score according to the report. As we understand it the semifinalist cutoff for Texas in 2006 is 217. Can it be that he missed out by one incorrect answer ? or does the percentile ranking indicate the cutoff is actually lower than 217 ? has anybody else in Texas had these explained to them ?</p>
<p>Each state gets an equal percentage of students. The percentile is based on national results. So, if a state has too many students scoring in the top 99th, then not all will make their state's cutoff. This is why some states have higher cutoff then others. </p>
<p>The cutoff for each state for this year won't be known until Sept.</p>
<p>Does anyone here know with a certainty what last year's semi finalist cutoff was in PA.? I would appreciate the feedback. Thank you, Dana</p>

hyperfeak: For commended kids, you don't really get anything money-wise. Maybe a corporate scholarship. Probably a breakfast and party hosted by your high school in your honor. Probably a certificate or whatever. Colleges still like to see it. It's still bragging material!</p>
