Today, I took the Sat II subject tests in Math II, Spanish, and Literature.

Traditionally, I score decently well on standardized tests. I scored a 32 on the ACT and a 2120 on the SAT (1400 without writing).
I don't believe that any of my schools require the SAT II Subject Tests (all of them who "require" them, like Yale and Dartmouth, will take the ACT+Writing (I scored a perfect on the writing section) as a substitute. I haven't taken them before, and I don't think I'll have a chance to take them again.

The problem is, when I took the tests today, I'm not sure that I did well. The Spanish section and Reading section seemed very easy, and I think I did well on them. Unfortunately, math (what happened, math?? I thought I could count on you!!) was a lot harder than I expected; I'm estimating that I left 8 out of 50 unanswered, and a couple of the answered ones I felt I really needed to check over but didn't get a chance to.

My question is: I believe I have a few days to designate score recipients for these tests. Should I send them at all? I'm afraid that a math score will hurt my chances, and unfortunately, I can't find out my scores until after I send them... if I recieve the scores and then decide to send, I think I'd have to pay $40. And my parents are already getting pretty frustrated with test/application fees that are starting to stack up.

Please provide any helpful suggestions or personal experiences if you can! Thank you :)

I don’t know about Yale, but Dartmouth definitely requires 2 SAT subject tests, even if you take the ACT with writing. I asked this specifically when we visited the school last spring.

I don’t know much about curves, etc. on these tests, but I do know that the subject tests are much harder than the SATI and as it is a self-selected group of students who take them, a lower score shouldn’t be too much of a problem. I have also heard (and this was from the parent of a recruited athlete, so it might just apply to athletes) that the SAT II’s can help your app, but can’t hurt it (I believe when figuring the Academic Index for Ivy recruits, they only use the SAT II scores if they will produce a higher number; if not, they double the SATI score). I also read somewhere on this board that you can omit quite a few of the Math II questions and still score a perfect 800.

Ah thank you for your helpful post. That’s bizarre; I swore the Dartmouth website said that Sat iis are unnecessary if the ACT with Writing is taken. Sure enough, I checked today and that was not the case. So I’m really grateful for the heads-up.
I’m thinking now that I’ll wait for the scores to come in and then send my two best to Dartmouth and Princeton (I found out today that they also require Sat ii scores). Unfortunately, I also discovered that Yale requires all scores to be reported if a test was taken… so it looks like I have to report my Sat iis there as well.
This sucks also because it’s expensive to do so. Oh well. Thank you for your help.

Scores are in. They’re worse than I thought.
