If I'm going to take a full practice test tomorrow, what is the best way for me to be in a test-like conditions? Could someone please tell me when to take the breaks, and when to do what? Because I have never taken a full SAT Test at a testing center before. If someone could please walk me through what I need to do to simulate the testing experience, I would really really appreciate it.

Do you have an SAT prep book at home?
If you have one, there should be a part that gives a briefing on the time of the breaks.
I would suggest you wear a watch while you’re doing the test. Also, sit in a very quiet area, and inform those around you that you would not like to be disturbed.

The exam is 10 sections long. (I am giving you information from my Barron’s prep book.)

Important notes:

Section 10 is always a 10-minute section, and section 8 and 9 is always a 20-minute CR and math section (whatever the order may be)

The experimental section does not have to be section 5, it can be any section from section 2 to 7.

The 2-10 can be in any order depending on your test, the above is an example.

If you find the above plan tiring in terms of breaks, you can have a 5-minute break after every two sections… (your last break being before section 8)

GOOD LUCK!!! :)

Be sure to work in a quiet room and don’t cheat on the time like I did.

YoungProdigy, first of all good luck on any future practice tests/the real thing (I realize my post may be late…)

Anyways, I took the SAT this january and I spoke with the proctor regarding breaks.
She told me that the CollegeBoard recently changed the timing of the breaks. While Staymotivated’s schedule is excellent for building stamina, I would like to offer the actual testing schedule so that you can experience the exam more realistically. That said, here it is:

1) Essay
2) Section 2

5 MINUTE BREAK + Copy certification statement

3) Section 3
4) Section 4

5 Minute Break

5) Section 5
6) Section 6

5 Minute Break

7) Section 7
8) Section 8
9) Section 9
10) Section 10

There are plenty of resources out there to give you tips to get as perfect of a practice test administration as possible. I recommend that you go to College Board’s website and play through their Test Day Simulator. It includes the test in the order I just mentioned and it will show you everything that happens from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you finish the exam.

Good luck and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any more questions!
