Pre-Econ Major

Can someone inform me how this process works? Is there a test where you have to take to get admitted to Econ. after ca certain amount of years? What are the requirements? Thanks.

You have to take the requisite classes and get the minimum GPA or better. There are no tests to get into the major.

Example:
Psychobiology B.S.

Students need to file a petition in the Undergraduate Advising Office to declare the Prepsychobiology major. They are then identified as Prepsychobiology majors until they (1) satisfy the preparation for the major requirements and (2) file a petition to declare the Psychobiology major.

For majors that are competitive to get into, such as Business Econ, there is a strict GPA requirement. I BELIEVE that is 3.2, but I really have no idea. Either way that is better than a B average and means many people will ultimately not get into the major. Just like Berkeley with Haas School of Business and their Pre-Business Administration majors, except easier.

GPA requirements for the Econ Dept:

BizEcon: 3.5, Maximum of one repeat lower div one repeat upper div
International Econ: 3.0, Maximum of one repeat lower div one repeat upper div
Econ: 2.5, Maximum of one repeat upper div one repeat lower div
Math/Econ: 2.0, not sure about the other requirements

And I believe you must declare your major between 85-137 units.

Bizecon uses the primary score, not gpa. You need a min. 3.3 to get admitted. (11 and 101 count 3 times more or something like that)

oh i see...btw. im about to take that brown final...***ffff

math econ is a 2.0? wow

I can't understand how that number come from; I believe Math Econ should be among the best students in Econ department !!!!!! I am bus econ though

Are we allowed to switch from say econ to biz-econ before we declare an actual major?

helloall,
well you need to take pre-major classes first. econ and bizecon have very similar premajor courses (2-3 differences) so just decide then which one you want to go for.

I declared my major as pre-psychology (and got admitted), but is it difficult to change to pre-businessecon?

I haven't declared my major to econ yet and I'm already up to 215 units! Eeek.

^ whoa, don’t you have to declare before you hit 130-something units?
