For people who may not want to be a “premed Major” (some schools have those), which schools across the US offer pre med advising? I’ve tried searching this up by I cannot really find much. Anywhere across the US?
I think they pretty much all do…search under pre-med or pre-health advising on colleges of interest websites.
You can major in anything you want as long as you take the medical school pre-reqs, which include: Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Math, English/Writing
Many students do choose Biology or Chemistry because there is significant overlap, but you can major in anything you want.
Here is info on what is required per med school:
Thanks @bopper yeah, I’ve been searching, but I really want to apply out of state and so I’ve been trying to find different colleges with a pre health advising program, but I can barely find one or two schools in a state. But thanks!
Why is out of state important? in state is often much less expensive.
What type of college are you looking for? Big? Small?
Urban/Suburban?
Tell me a college or state and I can try to show you they have pre-med advising.
@bopper I mean it’s not at the top of our lists, but my family was waiting until I get to college so that we can move somewhere that is a bit warmer and stuff, so we were looking at out of state as well. Maybe Arizona? A medium sized college would be good- not too huge but not something too small and secluded either.
Thank you for the help, though!
IMO, best bet for premed and moving is Texas. They have a good ratio of med schools, and are relatively cheap instate.
btw: I only know of one school that has a ‘premed’ or prehealth major. In any event, don’t do it; instead, anything in the traditional liberal arts is fine.
@bluebayou oh ok thanks! I will surely keep that in mind. Yes, I wanted to major in the liberal arts (maybe music or something like that)
Thanks!
Yes, but parents of dependent students need to move there for the student to get Texas residency.

Lots of colleges have pre-med advising. Try web searching for “[college name] pre-med advising”.
@ucbalumnus I will surely try that. Oh ok, so parents moving is necessary. We will factor that in, as well.
So as an example, SMU in Texas. 6000 ish students.
I honestly haven’t heard of any college without pre-med (or pre-health) advising. I suppose there are some small ones without it, but I don’t know about them. The smaller colleges I’m familiar with all have it.
I don’t believe it’s ever recommended to major in pre-med. Pretty much every med student wannabe needs a Plan B because most students who apply to med school do not get in. You can’t take acceptance for granted, so major in something you like in case you need it afterward.
Correct, and OP said family would move (post #4).
