I love the georgetown campus and that is the main reasonw hy it is my number one choice.

but i was wondering, I want to be a doctor and was wondering if the concentration of studies for premed is good at georgetown.

my cousin is a sophmore at gtown and she is saying that it is really tough. I know pre-med requires alot of work but she says it is still pretty rough.

so i was wonderin, is it worth goin to georgetown for premed or should i also focus on schools for premed such as cornell, michigan, jhu, and northwestern??

thanks

I just finished sophomore year as a premed, so I can confirm what your cousin said - it's tough. Organic chemistry really is hard and unless you're exceptionally smart it will require a lot of work. I've heard that orgo is especially hard at gtown and that med schools know this so they are more accepting of lower grades. I haven't applied to med schools yet so I can't confirm that, but I do know that we have a really good acceptance rate. There are plenty of times that students wonder if it's really worth going to a great school like gtown and struggling for less than stellar grades when they could easily get As at state schools. In the end, most people decide that the struggle is worth it because we really do love the school. I'm not entirely sure what your concerns are about choosing gtown- is it that you don't know if the program is good enough? Let me assure you that it really is. Our acceptance rate is like 90%.
If you're worried about it being too tough, then I can't urge you strongly enough not to go to somewhere like jhu. JHU was one of my final 3 choices and I'm so glad I didn't go there because it's not only really hard, but the students are so competitive that the environment just isn't supportive enough to get through the classes happily. Gtown is much less competitive and we all help each other out.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask them cus I'm not really sure if I answered it.

thanks alot, it really helped

i was just thinkin like even thougth gtown is hard, is it worth it? academic wise? i know college expereince wise that it is def worth it

I think it is worth it. Since our classes are hard, we're really well prepared for MCATs and go on to do well in med school. I would advise you to apply and then see where you get in and visit places. Visiting definitely helps you see if you'd like the school and will influence your decision. Georgetown is a great school and very well respected so the academics should be just as satisfactory as other places you apply.
