Does anyone know how good the pre-med major is?
I dont know whether to apply as a pre-med or biological sciences major.
PS does anyone happen to know how hard it is to get accepted into those majors?

As a parent of a freshman, I know Premed is not a major at SMU, so first you need to get accept to SMU first (14000 applicants last year - for approx 1500 spots). All freshmen will start out under Dedman College. You will declare your major at end of second semester. You can major in any field and concentrate in premed. For example you can major in biology, chemistry, math, engineering or even art with premed concentration. They have premed advisors that help you along the way. I hope this help. Hope you will apply, SMU is a wonderful school.

The national average for acceptance into med school coming out of an undergraduate premed program is about 48%. SMU’s acceptance is 20 pts. higher at 68%. So it goes without saying that it is a strong program that prepares our students for the MCAT and success in medical school. The Pre Med advisor is a huge resource, not to mention the endless research opportunities both on and off campus.

Also, there are no specific requirements to declare Pre Med track or Biology major. Your admittance to SMU has nothing to do with what area of study you express interest is. Like Zflygirl said, you will first be admitted into Dedman as a first year, and then declare your major at a later date (regardless of grades). Does this help clear things up?
