Hi, I'm a planned Integrative Biology major for the class of 2015 planning on heading to med school.

I was wondering if taking Chem 1A/1AL in the summer and taking Chem 3A/3AL in the fall would be a good idea. I've heard that because all the premeds take Chem 1A in the fall and Chem 3A in the spring the curve tends to be a lot more brutal--not that I'm afraid of any competition or anything, just want to keep my gpa as high as possible. I would also be taking a breadth course in the summer as well like Music 26AC...

Thoughts? Am I just wasting my senior summer or is this a good idea?

Thanks and Go BEARS! :D

its the same thing in summer and fall. just have fun. this is probably the last summer that will be completely free lol.

It’s more a matter of getting predictable/easy professors for said classes.

You want Pederson for 3A (and 3B). Can’t speak to 1A.

It’s not like the other 3A/B professors are bad (I personally preferred Vollhardt to Pederson), but it’s a lot easier to invest the work required to get an A in Pederson’s class than it is in Vollhardt’s because his exam book and problem sets tell you exactly what to expect on each midterm and how to approach it. Vollhardt just tells you to do problems from his book - not exactly a bad recommendation, given that his book is phenomenally good and the problems good practice, but it’s easier to motivate yourself when you have a book consisting entirely of homework questions and a list of ones that are guaranteed to help you on the next exam.

All I know is Chem 1A is easier in the spring.
