Pre-Med

I was wondering what the pre-med program is like at UDel. Will i be able to get into a good med school from here or should i look elsewhere?

Thanks.

I’ve been told that its your grades, mcat scores and activities that med schools look for above school name or reputation. but curious what others say.

UD has a very comprehensive program to assist students in preparing to go to medical school. There are two components to this:

There is a Health Sciences Advisement and Evaluatuion Committee (HSAEC) which involves student in all majors in helping them prepare to apply to medical schools. It involves a number of things each year of college including course selection, getting recommendations from professors, research involvement, volunteer activities in the medical community, and a number of other things. This committee also writes a specific letter of recommendation for each student as long as the Committee feels the student is a good candidate for admission to medical school.

There is a UD Medical Scholars Program a student can apply to in their second semester of college which involves applying for early acceptance to Jefferson Medical College in Philly. If a student is accepted they then complete their BA degree in 4 years at UD then go to Jefferson for 4 years to get their MD degree.

You can find a lot more info about the above two programs on UD’s website (Udel.edu).

UD sends students to multilple medical schools across the country. Of course, as noted by
the prior poster, grades, MCAT scores, and other achievements are the most impotant aspects of medical school admission. As a highly rated State University you should not have any problem getting into a good medical school if you do well in all these areas at UD.
