Pre med

Out of alabama and auburn which has the better pre med program?

Well, if you post this message on the Alabama site, they will tell you they do. Of course, we Auburn followers will say it’s Auburn. I would see if you can get some percentages from both schools regarding med school admission. Be warned, this number will be rather vague from either institution, and MOST colleges will claim that they get around 80% of applicants into at least one med school. I will say this, the med school advisor at Auburn (Ms. Childress) will supposedly walk on hot coals in assisting her students during the med school odyssey!

Some other thoughts: most pre-med programs will vet students pretty carefully in terms of who they feel can actually get accepted into med school. Depending on which program a person wants to attend, (ivy or other private, state – in order of avgs.) if they don’t feel the prospective candidate has the grades, the MCAT score necessary for admission, and the savvy/charm factor for the interview, they will strongly discourage them from applying. The advisory process starts early at both UA and AU, so by the time a student is ready to apply, the advisors usually have a pretty good idea of student ability, medical interest(s), research experience, etc. Generally, they won’t steer them in a fruitless direction and prepare them for what’s ahead.

Our child is interested in medical school, so we asked @ 10 friends in/near the medical field: “Will Auburn get you ready for med school?” Everyone said YES. One person finishing dental school at UAB said Auburn grads were as well prepared as students from any other university.
