Specifically Phi Alpha Delta. I mean I've seen the statistics; one out every 6 attorneys and judges, people all over the country, blah blah blah.

Question is, does it actually mean anything? Will someone have an inclination towards an applicant for either law school or a job if they see this on a resume? Does it actually carry weight?

Thanks for the insight if you guys have any. If you're a potential employer/admissions officer/ or you work with either of these, or you work in a law firm and have no idea what this is, please post that as well. I just want to know what time of name it carries in law firms and schools.

For law school admissions, no. They are meant to help you get an idea of what law school or the legal industry is like through speakers, networking events, lsat prep meetings etc.

It won’t hurt you to get involved however and the more prepared and dedicated you can be to the profession going into the admissions process, the better.

The only eligibility requirements for the organization are that you have a chapter at your school and you send them some money. Being involved and taking on a leadership role may be worthy of mention on an application, but simply being a member would mean nothing.

Membership can be helpful if you are going to your flagship state U for undergrad and want to go on to your flagship state U’s law school. It will give you the opportunity to meet some law faculty and make a good impression. In some parts of the country it gives you a chance to network with practicing attorneys who may be more willing to hire you for summer jobs during undergrad.

If you are aiming for the top 14, membership won’t help you. Not everyone is, though. Im some parts of the country, it really does help. Those parts do NOT include the Northeast.

Mhm ok then that helps a bit. Yeah I mean I figured it can’t hurt; at worst I get discounts on LSAT study materials and I get networking opportunities at possible summer internships. If anyone has any more insight though, that’d be useful!
