Does anyone have thoughts on submitting a Wild Card where the applicant is working with a scene partner for dance and vocals? The video is from a professionally taped live show.
Whoops, just realized this was in the wrong thread. I’ll post it on the vent page.
@sitzprobe. My thoughts on that are - if the school says a scene from a show is okay, then go for it. If you are unsure, I would probably call the department at the university and ask. Wild Cards are usually pretty open, and a theatre may not mind, but I might check first.
Also, I would really make sure that it showcases the best of what my child can do. And, I would be careful about getting permission from the other people in the clip to submit. I am pretty cautious, but I just don’t submit other people’s stuff online. The worst case scenario is that someone else in that clip is also auditioning for the same school and may not be happy with their performance, and might be sad if the school saw that clip of them. JMHO…
S got 2 yesses from Pace and Point Park within a couple of days, which is such a relief. Still waiting for link from Rider to be able to submit prescreens to them. And does anyone know how long it should take to get confirmation of Hartt audition slot? Do all recommendations have to be in before they will schedule? Still says pending on the Acceptd site, and I think it’s because of the letter . Anyone else get anything from Hartt yet?
Those who have heard from Rider and BoCo prescreens, how long did it take? I submitted mine weeks ago and nothing
@UniversityGirl Rider was about 3 weeks, still waiting on BOCO in week 4 now, same w Syracuse, Coastal Carolina…i think PSU response date is next Friday for those who submitted by 9/22
@MTSthistime Hi! I looked up my emails from Hartt. My D got confirmation of submitted on 10/2. Got an email saying her recommendations were received on 10/7. Then confirmation of audition date and time on 10/9. So… maybe they do wait until everything is in? Hope that helps!
@HAHCx4 , thank you! We might have to send a nice little reminder to our recommender lol.
@MTSthistime Last year we had not heard from Hartt about our audition slot either and when I sent an email we were told they hadn’t received one of the recommendations. So I too think they wait for those. Break a leg!
@MTSongbirdMom , thanks!
What does “redirect to acting” mean? They didn’t accept the MT audition but ok to try for acting?
@Debrina - yes. It basically means they did not pass the pre-screen for MT, but that the school would love to consider them for finals in their acting program. It means they liked their monologues better than their singing/dancing, or that the program is just so competitive for MT that they think you would have a better chance of getting in as straight acting.
It really is a compliment. It means they are DEFINITELY interested in you, even if they don’t think you are a right fit for their MT program, and they don’t want to cut you. I have heard of some people who have gone to audition for straight acting, only to then be admitted into the MT program after all. I also know there are a TON of schools where straight acting students have just as much access to the musicals and musical theatre classes as the MT students. My D has some friends at one of her top choices of schools that made it into the MT program, and then opted for the acting program because it gave them the same access to musicals, and the same access to musical theatre classes, but actually gave them more access to the higher level method courses.
So, while this is not always what you hope to hear, I have heard really great things from people who have chosen to continue auditioning after receiving this email.
Yes, for Elon it matters which Audition “Session” you choose. My D submitted before 9/22 deadline but chose Winter & Spring Audition, and hasn’t heard anything (website says emails for Winter and Spring are released on 1/22). Her friend chose Fall Audition and heard back @ 8:45am on Wednesday. Passed the Syracuse prescreen (heard back within about a week) and still waiting on same ones as everyone else: Texas, Penn, U of Michigan, FSU…
Can someone confirm that when there’s a link on the Rider portal that says to register for an audition that means you have passed your prescreen? It is def a new thing that appeared today but not clear as if I have passed
@universitygirl44 …I am going to assume that is what that means! Congratulations!! My D is doing Rider at a private audition, so she did not have to submit pre-screens, so I cannot confirm that is the case, but if the link is there, and when you click on it you get to a screen to set a final audition, then yes…I think you passed!!
Good luck moms and dads. We went through this last year and it was crazy stressful. It’s such a personal process. Your child will end up where they are meant to be. Also stock up on zicam, mucinex d, honey and ginger tea because unifieds is held during the height of flu season. I saw many kids having to leave before auditioning due to Illness
@universitygirl44 when did you submit to Rider ? I have also been waiting!
Got the link from Rider today also!
Congrats!!q
Got a yes from Shenandoah today!
