PREDICT CURVES FOR JANUARY 2014 SAT

thanks. and what do you think 2 wrong and 1 omit is on math? i think i got an 800 in writing, but i really screwed up in math and cr. second guessed myself too much. also, @ckoepp127 people seem to have gotten several diction questions wrong in writing, so i think the curve will be pretty good, which will help you.

Haha yea here’s hoping so. 2 wrong 1 omit is probably like a 750 if I had to guess.

considering 2 wrong and an omit gets you -3, i would expect a 720/730, maybe 740/750 if people did very bad although that’s unlikely because the math wasn’t actually hard, just tricky and you needed to read/reason carefully

What about 6-7 wrong on CR, 3-4 wrong on Math, and 3-4 wrong on writing with at least a 9 essay? (No omits)

probably 680, 720, 730 if i had to guess. ok, 3 wrong cr, 2 wrong and 1 omit on math, and an 800 on writing. any chance i will squeeze out a 2300?

Yes, I think you will squeeze out a 2300. Your biggest concern is CR because -3 is really like missing 4. Even so I think you will make it.

i hope you are right. thanks @Momof3UPENN85

Thanks 12345sat789sat
There were a couple vocab questions that tricked me…I knew what vernacular and malodorous meant but idk why I didn’t pick those 2…

i know how you feel @ThePariah. there were two CR questions where i had the right answer and changed it at the last minute. on every mock test i have ever taken i score above 2300, but when it comes to the actual test, i freak out and second guess myself. i think you have a good shot at getting in the 2100s, though.

@12345sat789sat Yea, it seems like it. I practiced at home and I averaged around 1920-1950 with like 12-13 wrong on CR, 5-6 wrong on math and 9-10 wrong on writing…seems like I did much better during the real test.

On the other hand, I guessed (educated guess) the last grid in question for math (the w,3 one) and I got it right, and a couple CR passage questions I changed the answer last minute and fixed the wrong answers, so I guess it goes both ways lol.

EDIT: People told me vocab isn’t as important as the passages, but I aced the passages even though I hate reading…however, most of my wrongs came from vocab related questions…

but one question wrong is one question wrong regardless of what part of cr is came from, correct?

yea, I didn’t have time to study for vocabs as long as I studied math, writing and most definitely taking full tests and getting used to the passages which is SO IMPORTANT.

On test day, I finished each section with 3-4 minutes left to check.

The reason I might not have gotten an 800 in math is because of that stupid reflection over the y-axis problem. Since there were 2 questionable questions (reflection and chair trips), do you think there would be a 1 wrong 800 curve? The rest were very easy though.

What did that answer end up being?^ & I think possibly, since there were a few questions with tricky wording.

@jchen97 YES, that’s probably one of the 2 questions I got wrong. I put 0 but its definitely not 0 lol.

yes @jchen97, i think one wrong could be an 800. i am so angry…i totally got the chair problem, but was tired and not thinking clearly and bubbled in the wrong thing. do you think 2 wrong and 1 omit could be a 740-750 by any chance?

For the one with x, sqrt x, 3x, could it have been 0?

@brixx21 no it could not have because they were separated equally on a number line

You have got to be joking. Are you guys (those of you proclaiming “it was easy, it was easy, it was easy!”) uninformed, ignorant, or just straight up dumb?

EriktheRed, a math tutor, compiled a set of SAT curves over many tests (a ridiculously useful source in, say, PREDICTING our curves!).

http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf

For whoever is saying -1=770, -2=740, -3=710 or whatever for Math, do you really think it was one of the easiest in SAT history, because that’s what the curve would correspond to (many people had trouble with how tricky several problems were)! And a predicted -3 raw points=770 for Critical Reading would put it more than twenty points below the norm, indicating it was “easy” when many people had trouble with just about every passage (Fluoride had like one tough question, Mountain screwed people over, and if I, personally, missed a question, it was in Italian Restaurant!) and the vocab was clearly more difficult. if anything, -3 raw points should be still an 800!

Writing, I agree, was medium. Perhaps a -2 and 11 essay be an 800?

This is my fourth time taking the test, I’ve probably done 45+ practice tests, I’m a Senior, and I’m also fairly sure I got at least a 2370, depending on that Italian Restaurant.

But seriously, the curves won’t be nearlyyyyyy as harsh as some people are predicting. Jeez guys, it’s practically fearmongering.

@brixx21, nope it’s 1/4 because 0-0-0 has no space in between so it’s illogical.
