Predict Your State Cutoff 2011!!!

Hey all!

I thought I'd start a little thread to predict your state cutoffs based on what's happened in the past or get other people to predict for you!

I'm from WA and it was 217 last year. So, I'm thinking it won't be over 218. Thoughts?

Washington has been the same for the past 2 years. Before that, it was 215.

I think it will stay at 217 or drop.

They have a different cutoff for students at boarding schools?

I called the National Merit Scholarship office; they are mailing out the semifinalist packets on August 24th. So, depending on the speed of the mails and the GCs/admin at your school, we could know by a week from Friday, the 27th!

DD got a 218 in Illinois, so I am hoping so very much that the cutoff in Illinois is below 218! Good luck to all!

Anyone want to speculate on this years cutoff? S with 213!

I’m going to say 222 for Massachusetts. My school has a lot more “would be” qualifiers this year than in years past. So really that doesn’t mean anything, but I just feel like it will go up.

Midwestdad…your son is probably good to go. I doubt Kansas will jump from 211 to 214+.

For your son not to make it, Kansas would have to increase by 3 or more points.
Kansas has been 211 & 212 the last few years.

Is your son looking for big NMF scholarships?

Already taken a visit to OU for chem E, went to OSU also but did not like the engineering dept as much. OU has got it down, they really treated him well!

^^^

Do you mean Oklahoma University or Ohio U?

Over the past three years, Florida has gone from 212-211-211. We’re on a downward trend.

Given that the score threshold is based on the number of seniors in the schools, and the number of students in Florida schools has been dropping, I suspect it will remain at 211 or slowly decline.

I’m the only one in my class of nearly 500 to qualify, according to my guidance counselor. Oddly enough, though, I was also told that the cutoff would be like 216, so if the counselor thinks that, then there might be others than me, who would have fallen between 211-216, and I’m just the only one to get above that. But maybe I’m just not remembering correctly. That’s probably more likely.

sorry, meant u of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, not Ohio

Wisconsin will probably stay around 207-208 :)

I am going to predict 216 for Illinois.

Hope we hear this week!

Guess 216 for WA based on WA PSAT/NMSQT Median of 146.0 for this year as compared to 147.2 last year.

Where did you find this year’s medians?

[College-Bound Juniors 2009 - PSAT/NMSQT](SAT Suite of Assessments – Reports | College Board)

I meant to say mean scores though, not median.

Thanks! That’s helpful. Georgia’s cutoff should be 214. The average score was only .1 different from last year’s average, and the number of students was roughly the same.

I certainly hope you’re right

Has anyone heard any news?

I go to collegeboard.com and search “psat archive” to find that info.
