PREMED, Boston vs. Binghamton (INTERESTING CASE)

OK so I am aspiring to become a cardiologist and am really really into medicine. But out of the schools I got into I really want to go to either Binghamton or BU. Now the most obvious answer, I think, would be go to Boston they have more resources to help you do well on your MCATs, GPA, etc. But Binghamton University is also giving me a full ride to go to school there. For Boston I would have to currently shell out 35,000 a year just for attendance and whatever, but I feel strongly about ocming out of undergrad without any debt. Will Binghamton still be the better pick between the two? Some things to consider and you guys can comment on… BU i heard has a hugge grade deflation in the sciences, which would hurt my gpa, which is REALLY vital for med school admissions. On the other hand, BU, also has MMEDIC, and internship/study abroad opportunities in medical facilities all over europe and what not. I love Boston, the campus, the people, the professors, I have yet to visit Binghamton… but still a FREE RIDE? Which would you pick?

I would pick the most affordable choice. I myself got into a very prestigious LAC, but they were giving no fin. aid. Now BU is giving me a lot of scholarships so I’m going to BU. Seriously though, it just makes sense to come out undergrad without any debt.

And Binghamton U is bound to have resources that will help you with pre-med. It IS a respectable, accredited university after all.

And, 35k is a huge sum when you really think about it…If you plan to take a student loan, that can balloon into something huge…

hope that helps!!

Money is always a huge factor. You can apply for scholarships while in college, and hopefully cut out parts of the tuition and become an RA, if you are serious enough about BU. You seem to love the opportunities available in Boston, so it be even more beneficial for yourself. As for the grade deflation, I’m pretty sure that Med Schools already know about BU grade deflation, so either that wont count as much against you or you will strive to work even HARDER for grades.

Since you have to pay for medical school, you should be saving your money now. It’s hard to say no to $35k a year.

There is no grade deflation and now I’ve seen that kids are taking the old neat catch-phrase and applying it to a curve for grades. That is determined by department and professor. BU’s grades are normal for a university.
