Premed course work

I'm an incoming freshman at Northwestern and I would like to pursue medicine. I have some questions about how to schedule my pemed science classes.

can freshman biology majors take BIO 210?

in the case that freshmen can take BIO 210, would you guys recommend this schedule for a freshman pemed? Do you think this schedule would balance the pemed course load by separating bio and org?

freshman year:
Bio 210
chem 171
Physics 130

sophmore year:
org. Chem 210
math 220
Foreign language

Would it be better to take math 220 or math 230? I got a 5 in AB and BC calculus.

I would appreciate any advice or comments!

The only thing I can contribute is to say that BIOL SCI 210 was taught for the last time in 2011-12. The new biology sequence, with credits and prerequisites is:

BIOL SCI 215 (1) Genetics and Molecular Biology (MATH 220; CHEM 102 or 172)
BIOL SCI 216 (1) Cell Biology (MATH 224; CHEM 103 or 172)
BIOL SCI 217 (1) Physiology (MATH 224; CHEM 103 or 172)
BIOL SCI 218 (1) Biochemistry (216; MATH 224; CHEM 210-1)

BIOL SCI 220 (.34) Genetic and Molecular Processes Laboratory
BIOL SCI 221 (.34) Cellular Processes Laboratory
BIOL SCI 222 (.34) Physiological Processes Laboratory
(MATH 224; CHEM 103 or 172 for the labs)

Assuming you (and NU) care about the prerequisites, and that you don’t have AP credit for the entire freshman chemistry sequence, the earliest you could take a biology class would be spring quarter of freshman year when 215 would be available to you. BIOL SCI 218 isn’t required for pre-med, but is said to be “strongly recommended.”

I’m just a 2016 dad; I’ll let those who have experienced these classes comment on the wisdom of your proposed approach. Good luck!
